SimMarket reviews cannot be trusted

Featured Replies

Just to let those who use the SimMarket website that you cannot trust the reviews on there. I paid for and downloaded 2 pieces of software that laterturned out to be complete rubbish and therefore wanted to warn others by posting a negative review. I happened by one of the product's review page andfound that my reviews had been wiped.I posted a message to SimMarket, the contents being:________________________________________________________________ME: I posted 2 reviews on products that were extremely unsatisfactory and the reviews were a warning to other potential purchasers, but thereviews now seem to be missing from both products. The products are:CAPTAIN KEITH - SCENERY ADVENTURE PACKS VOL 2CAPTAIN KEITH - SCENERY ADVENTURE PACKS VOL 3Could you please tell me where these reviews have disappeared to?Regards,Tim Clayton.________________________________________________________________SimMarket (Marty): Hello Tim Clayton,i cannot tell you specifically but reviews are subject to review and may be deleted by the management or on developers request if they areunfavourable to our businness.regards.________________________________________________________________ME: So if they harm your business or your sellers complain, you remove them?________________________________________________________________SimMarket (Marty): you asked a question that we have already answered in our first reply.satisfactory or not to you, this will be the only answer you will receive, there will be no further communication with you on this matter.________________________________________________________________Not the nicest customer support I have ever come across, but their message is clear and I wanted to make sure people are aware of their "review policy".

Hi Tim,I do find it interesting that your only two posts are to announce your virtual airline and then to bash Captain Keith's product. I don't have volumes 2 and 3 but do have volume 1 and found it to be nicely done and entertaining. Perhaps there was something else you were looking for that the scenery didn't deliver or could there have been problems in your computer settings that made it look bad to you. As for SimMarket, yes, they are a business and they are there to sell product not bash what they are selling... that does seem to make sense to me. Captain Keith's products have been talked about in other forums and always favorably so it is a shame that you had a bad experience with them.

Hi,It is thier website, they set the rules, this was not a customer support issue, their first response was accurate and to the point, and you pushed the issue. Now, there are plenty of public boards you can post on about your concerns about these products.Did you first take this up with Capt Keith?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi there,There is of course nothing interesting about two posts. Or does it in your (Zane's) perception say anything about the credability of the poster? But Zane if indeed so, it says more about the prejudices you might have, so no innuendo's please. But you're right. Simflight is a commercial business, so they can set their own rules. But I have to admit that their tone, however to the point, is not very polite or well behaved towards a critical customer. Even more when stated in emails/forums it's important at least to be careful with the words you choose to express your intentions. At least if you want any future business with this particular client..:)And to be honest. Although I think that Cpt Keith is a very sympathetic fellow simmer, I also was not very impressed by his first two scenery packages. But on the other site I really like his Sandpit (to bad it's not UT compatible) and Louisiana Wetlands Series. So a bad review got taken off the commercial publishers site? Big Deal. The tooth fairy isn't real and Santa Claus doesn't exist.Welcome to the REAL world Tim. Can we move on to something vaguely important, please? This has wasted enough bandwidth already!Allcott

Interestingly, I buy quite a lot of equipment from Galls (www.galls.com), and for virtually every product they sell online, they include customer reviews on the product info page. Whether the buyer thought the item was a complete POS, or the best thing since sliced bread, they publish it. Too bad more retailers don't feel the need to be honest with their customers.

I for one appreciate Tim's post - Normally, reviews on reseller sites tend to be worthwhile... more often than not on major sites like retailers "Circuit City" and "Best Buy" you get a good hodgepodge of reviews and can usually determine a good product from a bad one, if not a knowledgable review from a bogus one. When resellers start taking more editorial liberties than cleaning up foul language, all the reviews start suffering because of that tampering. It is good to know that SimMarket's reviews are, in essence, rigged. While I don't often base my flightsim purchases on reseller site reviews, I'll be certain to completely disregard any reviews found on Simmarket, simply because they may only be portraying one side of the story. Thanks Tim!-Greg

I knew about the tooth fairy, but Santa! Darn it!! Who's gonna get me FSX now lol? :-)

Flugsimulation has the only reviews that I really take into consideration. Worth translating and are done the way reviews should be done.I have spent ALOT of money at Simmarket and all I can say is, Buyer Beware. They will sell ANYTHING. I also at one time did a negative review and it was deleted. Did not make me mad but now I do not even bother reading them.

Because, Rob, we are at Avsim. And they also publish reviews, and doctor the ones that don't fit with their commercial interests. It's the way of the world. Nothing wrong with that - any review sent to a website runs the risk of being modified, just like any letter sent to a newspaper. If you don't want to be misunderstood, publish it yourself. Obviously Tim hasn't submitted his review to any of the various outlets, so coming here and #### about it, in only his second post sets suspicious minds thinking. Or it should.Allcott

If I remember correctly this is the second thread I've seen in the past year regarding negative reviews being removed from a product on simmarket.
