Thanks Michael Moe I re-installed it seems I had it right the first time, so no am not impressed with performance it’s lower than the NG, but am doing my first flight tomorrow so will see. Its one stunning looking aircraft that’s for sure. David Murden. April 6, 20197 yr Just did a little test on my system (specs below). In the identical scenario, I averaged 1.5 FPS less in the QW 787 (at 41) than the NG (at 42.5). So pretty close here. Since I normally Vsync to 30 hz, both preform equally in almost all scenarios for me. April 7, 20197 yr It’s about 3 less but at EGLL on the hardest FPS gate I know it was down to 21-22 I hope that was when I had hires installed. Because I get better FPS in the FSL at that gate. Anyway doing first flight today. EDDM to LIRF David Murden. April 7, 20197 yr Well... what is going on? All was well until i notice my ALT is stuck at 99900 so...reload aircraft everytime it goes to 99900 and cannot change it....wow! any ideas before I ask for my money back? Just Reinstalled still the same? Edited April 7, 20197 yr by Nyxx David Murden. April 7, 20197 yr Hi David, Question, did you wait for the initialization to complete when loading? I think this one needs to not have any input at all while setting it self up, no mouse, keyboard, nothing. I had a few quirky things when I didn't wait it out, usually takes 30-45 seconds then the enjoy your flight message pops up. Just a thought. April 7, 20197 yr All i did until it says its ready is hit one key on joystick to watch ALT and it came alive at and within 2-3 seconds as as above. EDIT: thanks, you gave me an idea and I've found the problem......2 hours wasted. It was a key set to a view that within the qw787 unlike any other aircraft is somehow keyed to increase the ALT. Time to start all over again. Edited April 7, 20197 yr by Nyxx David Murden. April 7, 20197 yr You might want to try it with no input. One time I just moved the mouse and that was enough. No idea why it seems to be so sensitive. I hope you get things sorted, it's really a fun airplane. April 7, 20197 yr Well first flight done. First impressions, very good, performance was very smooth. Hand flying and landing was very very nice. First flight filed. Nice landing for my first landing in this beautiful aircraft. But the HUD does make it very easy. David Murden. April 7, 20197 yr Excellent! Glad you finally got some satisfaction (rather than frustration) out of the 787. April 7, 20197 yr Just done a second flight, all good apart from TOD, I enter decent high given by ATC AT TOD nothing happened, press ALT nothing happened. I went to VREF. After decent started then back to VNAV. How does this aircraft handle TOD? (forgive me i've not read the manual but its a boeing!) Edited April 7, 20197 yr by Nyxx David Murden. April 7, 20197 yr No bang on touch down thank you!. I never target -landing rate touchdown area is far more important a float is a Go around. VREF was 145 Here is the charts from that landing Graph showing landing speed, you can see that touch down speed. No floating here. Look closely at the yellow line OK! April 7, 20197 yr I have to say it butters really well since last update. My system specs: Core 2 quad Q9650 @ 3.51ghz, GTX1060 6gb, 8gb ddr3 1333, 1Tb seagate barracuda, 500gb wd blue
April 7, 20197 yr In the last update I still have VNAV bugs, it is on VNAV PTH but it descends even it should maintain the altitude due to constraint. Also sometimes it goes from FL400 to FL380 and then back to FL400. Also, I used its performance calculation, all data right and once after the takeoff.. I got a stall and dive to crash. Also on AP, I get sometimes red N1 engines during climb and then it goes back to normal. By the way, does the transponder switch work for you guys on Vatsim, on my side it has no effect? April 7, 20197 yr IMHO part of the 787 VNAV climb/descent problems lie with the default speed targets on the VNAV pages. 311/.85 for climb/descent? No way to hit .85 before the mid to high 30's in climb unless the climb is below 1000-1200/min. And the engines will be max thrust the whole way. It's even worse coming down, you have to ride the spoilers all the way sometimes. I read somewhere that with the 787 you can come down or slow down but not both. It is a slippery devil. Back when Flight Assignment:ATP came out (in the 90's...🙂) it modeled the 400, among others. I flew for one of the first VA's, Sun Air Express. The chief pilot was a 734 capt for a major and one thing he told me was their SOP was to put 270/.70 in the climb targets so they would be at .70 between FL 270-290. Climb rates would then go back up but engines were a lot happier. They also did the same for descents. I've been doing this ever since in all the Boeings and it works really well for me. I do vary the speeds depending on the aircraft, generally I climb at about 270-280 and use a Mach of .06 lower than my crusie number. Course I really enjoy interacting with the plane so this keeps me in the loop and thinking. .70 is too slow climbing to upper 30's (too close to yellow) so I edit the climb/descent to 280/.76 and usually transition to .76 by around FL 310 or 320. Might cost me a couple of minutes (maybe) but a lot less fuel and engine stress. I also start down at 1000fpm about 20nm before TOD and dial the speed back to about .78, seems to make the transition to VNAV control a whole lot smoother. 737 has DESC NOW on the VNAV Descent page and it will start a 1000f/m descent if pressed. I can't see it on the 87 so I just do it myself. All this is with the condition, as usual, of YMMV.😉. As I said, IMHO.
