Any recommendattions for Los Angeles and Chicago airports?

Featured Replies

I'm considering adding two more airports to my scenery, namely, KLAX and KORD.  Which companies would have offer the best scenery?  I've considered Aerosoft but they don't have night textures.

Wait for FSDT or Drzewiecki Designs (whichever is better to you) to release KORD. FSDT KLAX is still pretty good imo. They are looking to update it later though.

Thank you for the suggestion Kevin.  Is that out now?  I have FSDT's Phoenix, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Denver airports.

For the updated KORD, they are still in development by both companies:

There is an older version of KORD from FSDT that is available now, but my recommendation is to hold off and wait for the update. KLAX from FSDT is also available now. It is getting somewhat dated but it's still great in my opinion. FSDT has announced that they will likely pursue upgrading KLAX, but that likely won't happen any time soon as they want to update their KJFK scenery first.

Thank you for the info Kevin. I will check out those links and decide about waiting until an update.  I never even heard of  Drzewiecki Designs. I'm looking at their site now.  Appreciate your suggestions. 🙂

No problem! Drzewiecki Designs is pretty prolific within flight sim. They are pretty high regarded and make great scenery, especially for the price. One thing to note with them is that they are actually doing a chicago airports pack, not just KORD. With that you will get KORD, KMDW, and KPWK at a pretty good price (possibly 35 euro but don't quote me). Another company named Skyline Simulations i also working on KORD, I believe, but they have been pretty quiet on the development end. They're primarily known for x-plane sceneries, but from what I could see they look fantastic, so I am interested to see what they bring to P3D.

Yes, my mistake.. that should be FlightBeam.

KLAX by FSDT is good albeit definitely showing it’s age.

i believe imaginesim is working on a new version but don’t believe it’s due out anytime soon.

Thank you for that info. I will keep  my eyes open and I bookmarked their site.  I'm in no rush. I might wait and see what develops.

Let me just add that, for the LA area you might also be interested in some other airports in that region. LatinVFR  have done KSNA, which is very nice. There’s also a freeware KLGB by Shez, which is freeware available in the Avsim library. This is actually a FSX scenery, but it works well for me in P3Dv4. Shez also didn’t KONT, and while it worked for me somewhat in P3Dv4, I deactivated it as it looked a little dated to me. Finally, KBUR was released freeware for P3Dv4 not too long ago: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/kbur-burbank.443099/

I agree that FSDT is very good.  Maybe it just needs some PBR to update it a tad.  I am not aware of another developer with an LAX?  It's funny, in general I can get better FPS with this add-on over using the default LAX?  Granted... have to tone down settings a tad (like AI), but way more detail than default.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

ImagineSim are working on LAX.
