As another option for flying over your house in a fast jet, depending on where you live , I’ve had a couple of VR flights in the newly released x-trident AV8 harrier using orbx true earth U.K. using X plane. That’s quite a staggering experience as I live in the “Dambuster’’ valley an area frequently used for military low flying. I’ve not delved too deep into the AV8’s systems yet but from the amount of beeps and pings going off I’m thinking it’s got considerable depth. It had a good review from pc pilot in the latest issue.

P3D wise I use the JF hawk and milviz T38 which are both good, I’m using the original analog T38 not the newly released C? Version, but the flight modelling is external and very good , and quite challenging. I’m afraid to mention this but,  the painful reality is P3D doesn’t really like doing 420kts at 250ft. The new JF VFR scenery seems to improve things though.

finally if you you just want to experience flying  very high performance aircraft to enjoy their aerodynamics, like I do, I don’t actually shoot things , then as other have mentioned there is simply no comparison to DCS.Its graphics engine allows a super smooth sense of high speed low level flight that is simply streets ahead of any other sim.

Hi Jon,

Whereabouts are you, I'm near Bakewell.

Even then, we won't see it. We don't have a study-level F117. Or even an SR-71, because aspects of *that* aircraft are still classified.

I'd reckon the reason we don't have a study-level F-117 is that there simply isn't a desire, or a market, for such a rendition of the aircraft. I have most of the (declassified and publically available) manuals on my hard drive, so the information is there; it's just a matter of a developer wanting to do it.

As for the SR-71..well, I'm not too sure how much I'm able to say, but I think it's safe to say that the upcoming Milviz rendition will be as accurate to the real thing as possible. The entire flight manual and associated performance data is declassified and easily found online (https://www.sr-71.org/blackbird/manual/). Really the only thing still classified on the Blackbird is the ASARS (the fancy ground imaging radar that the aircraft carried). Other than that, it's all fair game to be simulated.

For the most part, VRS has held the title of study level for military fast jets in FSX/P3D simply because there were no other developers with the skills, or the interest, in doing so. Only recently has Milviz reached the level to equal or exceed them (the ADV flight models of the T-38A, C, and F-4 Phantoms, and the upcoming F-15C and F-16C). For the most part, other developers who have done such aircraft have not bothered to reach that high level because the amount of effort involved in doing so makes it very hard to justify the low returns, unless you can get into the commercial market like Milviz has done with the PTNext/PITNext program with the USAF.

I own/bought the Milviz T-38 Advanced trainer. Comparing that and a fully working Hornet's FBW and fully working systems is like comparing the complexities of a 172 and an A320.

Learning and being able to operate a Military aircraft from F14> makes learning to operate FSL airbus a walk in the park. Flying around in a VRS Hornet from A to B in P3D is like driving/buying a Ferrari to get some milk from the local shops and not topping 30mph. It even turns out not to be a real Ferrari ^^ just a good rep.

I enjoyed the Milviz T-38 Advanced trainer good for learning AOA, but like all military aircraft, they wear very thin in a short time. P3D is the current king of Civ aviation. It's not made for Military and IMO best not used as one. Military aircraft in P3D are and feel little toys.

The best fit for P3D imo is A2A Spitfire and Civ Mustang as they can be thought of like a show aircraft. The Milviz T-38 Advanced trainer works as a trainer for AOA landing and getting a feel for a small jet. Anything with guns or weapons and you're in the wrong sim. Military aircraft normally come with both. Even the best looking aircraft of all time imo the spitfire, within P3D is just a shadow of its full self and what it was designed for and to do and that's not airshows.

I'd be surprised if you could get study level for either of those two aircraft as they are highly classified. If you're looking for highly detailed military aircraft try the FA-18 in DCS or the A-10.

he's asking for p3d not dcs

You will have some fun when the Milviz F-16 comes out then :) . All the so called limitations of P3D's flight modelling will no longer apply since it won't be used at all.
