FS2020 : Supposed requirements for Build Program

Featured Replies

Hi, as published in today's post (August 29th), we learned that the alpha recruitment will begin on September 12th.

It said that there will be a quick survey about you and your computer performances, and I would like to know if you have some ideas of what they are looking for :

  • About computer requirements, I think they will not require a "beast", so i think my i7, GTX960M and 8GB of RAM can be enough. Because if it's not enough, firstly I'll be very sad. Secondly, it will mean that the simulator needs a lot of computer resources, and so against the accessibility they were claiming some posts ago.
  • About personal informations:
    • I think they will ask basic questions about your experience with previous simulator and if you agree to make reports and play on a sim that is still in development.
    • Also, I think that they will require to be at least 18 (or maybe 21) years old, so they can collect our informations in agreement with the GDPR.

For me, that's all they will require, what do you think about it, am I wrong? If you have some other ideas, you can post in comments so we may interact to see if it's possible or not.

Wrong computer specs

Since this is more than likely cloud-based, all you really need is a client.

Beech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?
ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

They'll probably be looking for a large pool of diverse hardware setups at this stage so they can monitor how well (and if) things work on them. They can then start to optimize and set a minimum required hardware level for the sim.

I think they'll be asking the following:

  • Windows version
  • CPU type and maybe clock (OC or not)
  • Videocard type and maybe clock (OC or not)
  • Amount of RAM
  • Peripherals (do you have a yoke, throttle, pedals, stick and maybe a VR device)

Geographical location if cloud to test areas DXdiag report and agree to allow them info on your PC. everyone may not get the same build to test.

I agree, at this stage it’s probably diversity they’re after. In my (limited) experience, in subsequent tests they may want specific combinations, or particular bits of hardware if they’ve been working on something specific. Also do we know how long the tests will be open for each time?

They don't start recruiting till next month.

I've been wondering what generation hardware they require. I only have a Haswell (4th gen) CPU, and a GTX870M.

I remember FSW said they required a Skylake (6th gen) processor, nevertheless FSW ran reasonably well on my system.

I should think internet speed will be a factor too.
