September 20, 200619 yr There is supposed to be a new afcad program out but I can't find it. Can anyone give me a link to it? ThanksDon
September 21, 200619 yr Lee apparently coded in to have a message popup about checking for updates at certain time intervals.Yes, we all got a message recently, and no there is not update.
September 21, 200619 yr And with FSX around the corner, I doubt there will be another version for FS9.I guess LEE will start coding for FSX Brent Lewis
September 21, 200619 yr Author Hi,This is looking very doubtful at this time - I have not heard anything that leads me to believe that Lee will be doing a version for FSX, and I have read several reports that he will not...Take care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page

If there have been any "Lee Swordy sightings," it's been kept a State Secret. For all I know, Lee may have left this "Vale of Tears..." :-bigangel Fr. September 22, 200619 yr Unfortunately, Bill is right. Now for the even more important question, is anyone out there preparing to take over and create something for FSX? I would gladly pay for something as good as AFCAD was, and I rarely buy addons.
September 22, 200619 yr Hi all.Output BGLs from AFCAD can be decompiled, and recompiled by FSX's BGLComp just fine. Great for experimentation. Anything new could be hand-coded XML until someone supplies a new CAD program.Lee's work was great. I'm a bit surprised he didn't update AFCAD after the SDK for FS9. AFCAD was a huge boon for sim designers, and endusers. I wish him well with whatever he's doing now.Dick
September 22, 200619 yr Author Hi Bill,Yes, I believe there are several people that talked to him after he dropped out of sight (not me, although I did beta test AFAD2). What I read from them was that Lee had either left the hobby, or had decided not to do a new version. But this was quite a while ago, and thus I put in the "I believe" qualifier.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
September 22, 200619 yr Author Hi,The only current program I know that can accept and display AFCAD files (other than decompiling them into native XML) is SceneGenX, available from the Airport for Windows web site. It can load most AFCAD files and allow you to edit them (but not save them back in AFCAD format). This program generates XML files for you to tweak if necessary. While the GUI is not as user friendly as AFCAD's, I hope that Tom Hiscox will be creating a version for FSX after it's released.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
September 23, 200619 yr Of course it is Lee's right to retire or shred the code or whatever, but why doesn't he publish the sources to the public, so someone else can continue the development.Would be too bad if AFCAD is going the way of the Dodo. I think it a great tool.Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
September 23, 200619 yr For the record, I too am very very concerned about the loss of Lee's AFCAD2 program in FSX. Didn't he also write TTools upon which so many other utilities depend upon as well? Having spent way too many hours learning how the AI systems works and all the add-ons so many other wonderful folks took the time to write, will just simply be heart-breaking. Collecting and implementing AI and customizing airports was 1/2 the fun of FS2002(4) and will be a period of my life I will not soon forget. I submitted many official PAI AFCADS which are still in use today and continue to collect official PAI packages, among others, to this day.I too really wish Lee would consider donating the source code to an active member of the community so we don't have to start all over.:( Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE

September 24, 200619 yr Author Hi,Yeah, Lee made the source code for TTools available to anyone who wanted it before he dropped out of sight. I agree, doing the same for AFCAD would be great.Take care,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
