September 24, 200619 yr The source code for TrafficTools has been in the library for this website, and other libraries, for almost as long as the program has been around.AFCAD was a different deal.Anyone remember the other AFCAD like program which came out at near the same time for FS2002?One of the things I remember from the AFCAD2 beta was Lee's displeasure with the number for people who simply would not believe that FS2004 was different and they had to change their way of doing some things.Looking at AFCAD files on this site and others today, it's still apparent that many people do not want to learn how to make AI work better. The good news for FSX is that many of the smaller airports will not need additional parking spaces. They have added a LOT of parking in FSX.I expect a decompiler to XML soon. Then we can see if some of the code elements in FS2004 which did not work, actually work in FSX.
September 24, 200619 yr >>Well, I recently learned that "someone" has the source code>for Lee's TT's and is working on a version for FSX. :}I have heard that too!! One of the hurdles is that FSX has changed some of the file structures of the traffic files. >>It would be nice if the source code for AFCAD was similarly>made available...Yes it would be. Looking at the complexity of the AFCAD program, specifically the CAD capabilities, I wonder if Lee Swordy has some kind of CAD framework to work with. If he wrote that program using the standard Windows 2D graphics library GDI (or GDI+), then he truly has a great talent.Maybe someone will take on the task of creating an AFCAD clone using BGLCOMP.Lee Steffensen.
September 24, 200619 yr Dick, any idea if the recompiled file will be immune from the crashing problems we saw when afcad files were redundant?Bob
September 25, 200619 yr >Anyone remember the other AFCAD like program>which came out at near the same time for FS2002?>Yes, it was made by the late John Stottlemire and it was called Add A Gate found only on the buckeye web site.It was released 2 months prior to Lee's first FS2002 AFCAD program but was not CAD. It used a airport picture overlay and was all we had at the time.Just after Lee released the AFCAD program we all complained about taxi speed so John gave us the first Taxi Speed Utility (5/27/02) for FS2002.On 06/12/02 Andy Robinson released his AIspeed program which included changing the AI speed in curves. He used both a shared memory type patch (non-permanent) or a permanent patch which wrote to the AIPlayr and Sim1.dlls's.
September 25, 200619 yr SGX has much of the functionality of AFCAD (more in some areas) but lacks the WYSIWYG detail that lets you do runway fillets and the like.scott s..
September 30, 200619 yr >I would gladly pay for something as>good as AFCAD was, and I rarely buy addons.I agree 100% with you here. I don't think Lee realizes his AFCAD wasbetter than most payware utilities. I would gladly pay for a reworkedFSX version of AFCAD and like you I don't buy a lot of add-ons.How much would I be willing to pay? Considering how much I use AFCADI can see myself parting with as much as $25. I'll bet if it was priced at $15-$17 most people would part with some cash.FaxCap
September 30, 200619 yr Hi all. There is a programming movement at http://www.fsdeveloper.com that may produce an AFCAD replacement for FSX ( Scenery Design Suite X ).Dick
