Toothpaste and Canuks.....

Featured Replies

Quite the nice combo. 🙂

As a painter....seeing an airline go out on a limb and picking a questionable main color is always intriguing. When Air Canada decided to base their main color on what would become an endless avenue of quips about "toothpaste" and "Mints" in the aviation world, I initially treated it with the same level of skepticism and ridicule....

Then...the more I saw it...the more it grew on me....then I painted it. 🙂

May be one of my favorite paints 🙂

Nice paint, Steve. Using your Delta and KLM repaints quite a bit on recent flights now that I have the A330 running perfectly as I want.

I always liked that livery. When ever I fly the PMDG 777 it's for Air Canada. Canada's frigid you know! 😁

I sure prefer the "Toothpaste" livery than the newer ones. Why they did that detail to the cockpit area I never know. Just looks odd.

Looks great Steve!  It’s funny how new paint schemes can grow on you.  I grew up in Canada in the era of white and red Air Canada in the 80’s, to me that will always be my favourite scheme.  When they went to the black tail (or I guess really really dark green, technically) I was not happy.  Eventually though it grew on me and came to represent the next generation of Air Canada.

When they went to the toothpaste livery I thought, wow, that’s hideous!  Go back to red and white 🙂.  But over the years, I really came to appreciate the uniqueness of the colour, and really grew to love it.  I remember being at Heathrow once and the handful of Air Canada planes lined up at their gates in the toothpaste scheme really stood out.

When the current scheme was released I said “booooo, go back to white and red 🙂” again.  I’ll keep beating that dead horse forever.  I really, really didn’t like the newest paint scheme, so bland, looks like Delta and most European airlines etc.  But.....even though it hasn’t been out too long I find it growing on me.  It does look quite refreshing and clean...maybe that’s just because most aircraft in that scheme have been recently painted lol.

Still love the toothpaste blue though and I’m excited to be taking the A330 for a spin in your great rendition of this unique livery!

Yeah...really loved the red and white scheme too...very classy.

So much so that I painted the iFly 747 in that beautiful livery a few years back....

Put a lot of detail into the tail....

Kinda wish they'd do a retro paint today of this livery....it was very beautiful I thought.

My favourite too.

Air Canada has a huge opportunity for retro jets that I wish they’d take advantage of.  Not just the Air Canada red and white, but think about how great a CP orange or Canadian blue/grey retro jet would look...

Got the registration on her....usually one of the last things...I need to tidy up the tail and she'll probably be ready for your hangar tomorrow. 😉

Like your painting... and the old Air Canada Livery. The black around the cockpit in the new scheme reminds me of the masks warn by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles way back in the 80's.
