P3D crashing after loading scenario

Featured Replies

Hey guys i was looking today to do a flight and as soon as i loaded into an airport my sim just froze and crashed instantly after a few seconds. I have cleanded the shaders folder/CFG and used DDU to install the GPU drivers. In regards to scenery i have never had any issues what so ever and everything was working fine up until now. Anybody know what the problem could be?

What I would do is to rollback to your previous graphics driver or re-install it using the Nvidia installer, ticking the clean install option. Try the same flight scenario later on and see what happens. If your flight loads Ok, it's maybe that something happened with your original driver installation.

Good luck.

Ah I see thank you I will try this out in the next flightsimming session however I have never had any GPU driver problems. In fact this problem started with the previous driver

Keep it simple. Have you tried a different startup scenario?

Edit: Sorry. I didn't see that Ed had already mentioned the scenario.

I must say that my P3D was running like a dream before this problem occurred.

Do you still CTD when starting with default scenario.

For testing and eliminating. Try disabling items in dll.xml and exe.xml. Try another plane. Try another airport. Try unchecking add-ons on the menu.

It's not normal for that to happen and the stock sim, that is the normal sim, does not exhibit that problem.

So the stock sim with no settings tweaks and addons confirms the machine is ok, and that no problems exist such as malware.

So, why did you use DDU to uninstall a previous driver?.

You can also look for the AVSIM CTD guide, Look for it somewhere in the front page.

My first port of call for such crashes are the deletion of shaders and then scenery indexes.

  • C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SceneryIndexes_x64
  • C:\Users\account.name\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Shaders

P3D then rebuilds both and all going well no more crashes.

Although I have come across a few scenery locations that always cause a crash.

I typically don't delete the Prepar3D.cfg because it holds a lot of specific configurations I've put in place.

That said I do rename it on occasion so that a new fresh one is recreated when there is a need to test via a process of elimination.

Hope the above helps.

Cheers
