Concern about delivery platform for MSFS2020

Featured Replies

a lot of concern based on speculation.

Anything that turns on the price or distribution is part of the snapshots. So we'll have some official answers before the release. Maybe end of February, beginning of March, but I'm not sure I understand the roadmaps in the insider area.

why don't we just wait a little while and see what the answers say?

source?

afaik they said "more" not "all".

Gears 5 was also announced to be steam when it was announced.

must be some mistake then that Forza Street isn't on steam?

Now you're just being pedantic.  Forza Street is a mobile game.

I'm sort of staggered that they actually ported that game to Windows.  For one, it's terrible.  And for two, it was literally some other existing mobile game that that they bought, and then just re-badged with Forza branding.  I'm also almost certain it requires a touch screen to even play properly.

ported

They ported it to gamepass / uwp "run everywhere"

The stated goal from xbox studios is that "all" their software is available on "all" hardware platforms (which might be what you mistook for "all stores").

Without porting.

noble goal especially since Oracle pretty much dropped Sun Microsystems' "write once run anywhere" ball.

Unfortunately Forza Street is what that effort currently looks like. It also destroys most if not all of the remaining positive aspects of windows even if they start succeeding.

Just can't help yourself, eh? lol.  Forza Street is a nothing mobile-focused game that came and went like a fart on the wind, and as I mentioned before, wasn't even actually made by Microsoft - it was an existing game called "Miami Street" that Microsoft bought the rights to for some reason, and quickly rebranded as a Forza game.  It is representative of nothing - not even a real Forza title.

How about Gears 5? Forza Horizon 4? Why are they any less representative of "what that effort looks like"?  Because Forza Street makes for the softest target if you want to slag Microsoft?

And no, their stated goal is not to put all of their software on all hardware platforms.  Not Apple, not Linux, not other consoles (save a couple of small exceptions with the Nintendo Switch), not locally on mobile.  Their policy is to bring all first-party games to Xbox and Windows.  Once xCloud launches, that'll expand to STREAMING to mobile devices, and tablets.

The Xbox One OS is a customized version of Windows 10, so aside from having to build games with optimization and scalability in mind, it's not that difficult to do.

You have to be desperate to use Forza Street as evidence in this case lol.

I was referring to MSFT offline attempts at "run anywhere"

Gears 5 is Unreal Engine - thats been smashing cross platform for a long time.

Forza horizon 4 is interesting, and very likely imho how msfs2020 will end up coming to xbox one and mobile.

although steam link died and googles attempt at online streaming is still a long way off mainstream.

How about a fun little wager? If MSFS ends up on Steam within a month of release, I get to control your avatar for 3 months but if it doesn't, you'll have control over mine for the same duration 🙂

I can confidently say that I am in no way concerned about the delivery platform for MSFS

it scares me a little that you would want my ugly face next to the heli for your avatar, but if you really want to use one, you dont need to win a wager. just ask, Ill even autograph it for you.

Oh no I wouldn't want that but I'm confident I'll win the wager and I can think of a few awesome things your avatar would be :D. You sound pretty confident with your Forza Street reference, so what say you? Do we have a deal?
