February 2, 20206 yr Hello guys! As there is some intense discussion going on about flight simming and the software engineering involved, I decided to open up a dedicated thread for that. There might actually be some interesting stuff to discuss, if we can keep it civil. @b737800, @mSparks and Co ... this is for you guys. Cheers! Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved

I'm sure he has some skills and maybe I can learn something. I've not saying any name three times ever again after the Beetlejuice saga. EDIT: It is 00:30 here though.... February 2, 20206 yr OK, I'll start. Microsoft Flight Simulator will turn out to be nothing more than FSX with a new weather engine, scenery engine, FDE, GUI and shadders. In every other regard it will be FSX. A pig wearing lipstick, if you will.😁
February 2, 20206 yr Administrators OK, guys...I will bet everyone knows how long a snowball will last in hell. That's my prediction for this topic! Any taunting, name calling, etc will not be tolerated! Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Can you tell us more about what you've been working on and maybe dive deeper into one of the bugs that took this long? Thank you. Edited February 2, 20206 yr by b737800
February 2, 20206 yr By the way, just in case anyone is remotely interested... I started working on an avionics package for P3D using the SimConnect SDK literally a month or so before the Microsoft announcement last year. It was mostly for my own education but with commercial possibilities. I put it on hold for obvious reasons. Here's a screenshot of the PFD. There was also a VERY basic FMC with altitude hold, heading select etc. Total dev time was about 2 weeks at the point I stopped.

Well this royal [unmentionable] [can I even use SNAFU? 😞] https://github.com/mSparks43/XPlane-11-AutoATC-plugin/issues/17 was just [theoretically] fixed again today, cause this time was closing while local squelch was still playing would make the audio player lock and never complete (which was the source of that thought in the post, I had just started getting it reliably recreated when I posted - knowing it was connected to the squelch sound). Admittedly multiple issues over time, and this last one was a lot longer than 7 hours (more like 1 in 48), but demonstrates how they often play out. The reason MSFS2020 will require even greater significant testing hours just to stand still is a very similar combination of wherever that "multi CPU/azure" quote is, and these kind of [unmentionables] https://devopedia.org/race-condition-software Doesn't mean I think MSFS2020 is terrible or going to "crash and burn", does mean I take exception to certain claims being made that don't consider how [unmentionable] this kind of dev is. (GFX/GPU dev is not the same, because it cuts out much of those problems "by design") 80/20 rule has also proved itself to me time and again. So if they spent 4.5 years getting to where they are now, you can imagine how long I think that means they have before they get to having things fixed and working. But really, this kind of conversation requires too many [unmentionables]; random forum chats, CSGO are my brain relaxation from such [unmentionables], plus comparisons with other sims already got me every post I make pre mod approval, so I'll skip out of this particular conversation here. I'm totally with you on the 80/20 rule. However, how do you know they took until now to get to those 80%? Maybe the 80% were achieved after 2 years already? Then they spent time on bugfixing to have it ready for release within a year or so. Just a bold guess, but I think those guys have a little bit of experience in software development as well.
