Not sure why you're getting blurry looking textures. As far as 256 vs. 512......that's what I said when I bought my current 128 meg card, but there seems to be a difference between 128 and 256 now :)Matt
October 14, 200619 yr Author Hi,You need to use the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION tweak listed on Matt's page. Increase the value for better scenery at the cost of frame rate.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
October 15, 200619 yr Hi GuysTried to re-size my textures three times now. ImageTool seems to hang up on the conversion after a while and I cannot get the batch file to finish.Has anyone else seen this or is it jsut me.The reason I am doing it is to try and reduce the terrain data load time when starting a flight - Again this might be memory as I have 1Gb but I hoped that the smaller textures might help. Can some kind soul tell me what is likely to impact on the load time for terrain data? Not sure if that is mesh, land class or what :-) Jon ------- Microsoft Flight Sim MVP Airport Design Editor FSDeveloper.com
October 15, 200619 yr Thanks for the batch file. Worked like a charm and definately makes a difference.
October 15, 200619 yr Of course since you are making the textures 1/2 the size, there will be less detail. But probably not very noticeable if you don't set the texture resolution smaller than about 2 meters per pixel.Matt

October 16, 200619 yr See, this is a discussion i really love.I have my FSX copy sitting here. I beta tested it and now have the retail version. Thing is I travel a lot for business and have zero time for early adopter tweaking (which is different from bug reporting in beta.)Im gonna wait about 30 days or so (maybe 60) and then use the historyto make this work smooth!Eric AND
October 16, 200619 yr Something interesting i noticed checking the building files. The buildings didn't show up in the sim. Then starting to tinker myself with them i noticed some of these are missing proper nightlighting. They have LM files but they are just black/grey. Regards, Gerrit Gerrit
October 16, 200619 yr Hi,I did pretty much all the texture replacements and now FSX locks up solid. This could have been my fault because I had not done the SDK install and when I inserted the CD it auto-started the FSX install. I aborted it but it apparently does something because when I started up FSX it said there were files damaged or missing. To make my story longer
October 16, 200619 yr >>Could FSX be locking up because it was finding two textures of>the same name?>>Should I be deleting all of the native files that the BLD, AG>and or tree mods replace?>>Has anyone else had lock-ups after doing the texture mods?>>Later,>Jon>All the texture replacements I know of should have the same file name as the originals so there shouldn't be two with same name. Sounds like there might be something else going on.Also, if you have the scenery sliders set too far to the right and your computer is not very fast it can sometimes take more than 5 minutes to load so maybe you are just not giving it enough time.Matt
October 16, 200619 yr Hi,Thanks for the info on the files.I'll just have to wait until I reload to see if it happens again. The lockups happen at the splash screen or the free flight screen. I let it sit for about 20mins before I shut it down.Later,Jon
October 16, 200619 yr >Has anyone else had lock-ups after doing the texture mods?>>Later,>JonYes, I let it sit for approx. 1/2 hr before having to shutdown and restore my backup. However, I do have a comment about creating a backup.Try 7-Zip Archiver to compress your backup(s) http://www.7-zip.org/ The new 7z format compressed to just over 2GB using the following commandline:7z a -t7z c:TextureBU.7z [email protected] -x!thumbs.* -m0=BCJ -m1=LZMA:d=24 -ms -mmtThe listfile.txt MUST have the absolute path to the file name(s) For example:"C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator XSceneryWorldTexture001b2su1.bmp"-or-c:"program filesmicrosoft gamesflight simulator x"sceneryworldtexture143b2wi5.bmpI've read that Vista has a minimum screen resolution requirement of 1280x1024, hence FSX was more than likely designed to run at the same resolution, originally, both Vista and FSX were to be released together. Could this 'minimum requirement' have something to do with the lockups?
