The difference is hardly semantic. You'll have to warm up your Google-fingers if you need an explanation of what constitutes a "memorandum of understanding".

If you say so... Being a "novice programmer" I imagine you've come across many in your long career.

Yes, because programmers are the only people who know what promises and MOUs are.

Good point.

Yet clearly you have trouble identifying a promise  (implicit or otherwise)... The 3rd party devs are "over a barrel", their sales decimated by Asobo's apparently hollow promises of 3rd party support.

I'm not sure what to say. Your statement is absurd on its face.

And we've come full circle...the jamming-to-signal ratio in this thread is too high.

Absurd how?  I've not been buying addons for P3D because of Asobo's promise to support 3rd party devs in FS2020, I'm not the only one.  Understand my point now?

Your statement was absurd because you claim I have difficulty recognizing promises, yet you yourself don't seem to have a firm grasp on the concept.

I've understood everything you've said. I disagree with you because your analysis appears shallow and biased, leading you to arrive at unsupported conclusions.

I get the sense that you're upset at Microsoft because their presence in the market is disruptive to the status quo to which you've grown accustomed. That's a reasonable emotion, but it doesn't form the basis for a rational or logical discussion.

I feel no such desperation. I'm perfectly happy to wait and see what we get when MSFS arrives. I'm not bothered that some addon developers may not successfully make the transition to the new platform.

It'll all be fine in the end. Or maybe it won't. What's the worst that can happen?

Until PMDG issue a statement that they've changed their business plan, one has to assume they are content with how MSFS is currently being developed, and that PMDG believe that MSFS is where their future lies.

XBOX2020 will sell in the hundreds of millions of units and MSFS2020 will be on a large proportion of those.

regardless of "hard core simmers" and windows PC users perception of quality (lol).

PMDGs business plan is a numbers game, and at this juncture still a good one regardless of what ends up being provided to developers.

It's actually you that fails to grasp the notion of a promise.  But let's just condone a world where everyone can weasel out of a promise by playing semantics.  I'm sure the 3rd party devs all love your notion.

Ok. This conversation has clearly run its course, so I'll leave you to it...after these final thoughts:

Not every statement of intent or desire is a promise. You know this is true instinctively, so I'm not sure why you're pretending otherwise.

I truly, honestly, could not care less what any third party dev thinks about my notion. They compete for my money. Our relationship is transactional and I owe them nothing.

I'm not sorry.

If we think about it reasonably, there is no chance MS releases a product that is inferior to 2006' FSX in terms of addon quality, while in any other regard quite literally stomping the competition into the ground.

Even if it might look otherwise at the moment, this is just a snapshot. The SDK is not finished, afaik.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

Personally I hope Asobo tackle this issue and explain what the exact purpose of Webassembly is within the sim  and summarise why they are intending using it when so many developers seem against it.

Two developers are against it as far as we know from this thread : Ed and Milviz 😉.

I think you're a little optimistic.

From Wikipedia, Xbox One has 50 million in sales after 6 years on the market
"At Turtle Beach Corporation Q3 2019 earnings call, Xbox One sales were estimated to have reached 50 million."

Even if Xbox2020 eventually reaches 50 million units after another 6 years, I can't imagine more than 1% of those units would have users that actually want to purchase content for FS2020... So that's a potential FS2020 market of 500,000 users, after 6 years.

How many of those want study-level add-ons, needing Asobo to devote a lot of effort to making the SDK suitable for devs like PMDG, lets say 10%... so that's a market of 10,000 users.

Now if I was the Microsoft bean-counter I'd be saying, "hmm we need to do all this work for a market of only 10,000 users?  hold your horses Asobo, lets just refocus our efforts on the what's important, and it ain't supporting study-level content just yet, but maybe a bit later on down the road".

Just IMO of course.

Probably the only ones with guts enough to speak out, given the NDA restrictions.

xbox live has 64 million active monthly users and growing.

fsx steam has ~2000 monthly active users and falling.

Regarding synthetic vision displays, let me clarify.
I didn’t say they wouldn’t be possible, I said that the many different styles of SVS won’t be possible unless the devs are given access to the underlying 3D engine with the ability to use custom shaders and textures. Without that, Asobo’s SVS is only useful for Garmin displays, nothing else.
