Hi,

I've been meaning to post an update for a while.

So, the new new Alphasync PC will be:

Mobo: MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk

CPU:  AMD Ryzen 5 3600*

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 (2x 16GB)

SSD: Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 1TB

Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 500GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB*

          Seagate Barracuda 1TB*

PSU: Corsair RM850x*

(* Already bought/owned)

And after paying for all of that, I hope I don't need any more PC gear for a long time!!!

(well, except for the Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo controls and quadrant😳)

Nice! Thanks for the feedback! I'm planning on an upgrade like yours. Congratiulations for the new PC. Enjoy!

You may be able to get away with 4K as long as the refresh rate is not greater than 60. In the following video, there is a guy running 3 55” 4K TVs on one graphics card and performance does seem to be an issue.

In their setup explanation video they write they get between 20 and 40 FPS.

1.) I haven't checked further but I wonder how much they have pimped X-Plane to get this performance in the first place.

2.) I lost my interest in X-Plane because when it looks nice, I'm stuck at ~20 FPS in critical situations (landing) and for me that is unflyable.

Wonderkroete - I have given up on Xplane, P3D and FSX. Not only are the frames universally bad if you crank up the graphics, but it seems to me that the problems never end. I was just flying P3D and it crashed half way thru a flight for no reason.  Most people think their hardware is not good enough despite having top of the line computers. There is now computer in the world that can handle these flight simulators. Everyone hyped P3D and Xplane as the future of flight simulation. Both turned out to be huge disappointment.

My frustration with X-Plane started many years ago when my at the time new highend-ish computer turned out to be not that capable with X-Plane while other new modern games like GTA5, Battlefield 4, ARMA 3 (probably the most comparable to a flight sim) was running at maxed out settings at 50-60 FPS. I also tried FSX and P3D.

It became obvious, that some developer needed to start to develop or use an engine, that is able to use all that new features that are possible and hardware implemented these days.

But all existing products until this day are like an oversalted dish that are tried to be improved by adding more and more spices or water to cover it up. At some point this won't work anymore and and it will taste miserable.

I really wonder how much ASOBO started from scratch and how they were able to use what was already existing. I just hope it lives up at least to 50% of all our expectations.

I was not aware of the existence of a farming simulator. But since some are offended by being associated with farmers, I will not use the more abbreviated term. I think all, if not most of you, knew what I was referring to.

You don't want people getting confused and thinking they have wandered into the farmers forum. Wonder if the same people offended by FS20 were nervous with the FSX name. Maybe everyone could get behind FSXX? Let me apologize in advance to any farmers I might have offended.

I'm really hopeful that Asobo were able to start with a completely clean sheet using modern multi-threaded game engine technology for the new flight model. We know they've included the old engine to allow backwards compatibility (is that FSX era? Or P3Dv5? Did Lockheed actually change the physics engine much after forking FSX?) but it's the speed and stability of a modern application which uses more than 1 or 2 cores that I'm looking forward to seeing. That should give us framerates comparable to modern games rather than the current mess where we're all chasing tiny increments and celebrating anything more than a constant stable 30fps.

Any expectations about 3600xt on FS2020?

I would expect it to perform slightly worse than an i5-10600K with MSFS, with the gap narrowing as resolution increases from 1080p to 4K.

Hi all! I'm brand new here but am excited about this new flight sim. I am not usually a gamer, but I have enjoyed the previous versions of MSFS. I have never been able to afford a computer that could play any of them with decent graphics, but decided to treat myself with a new machine for FS2020. I am not a computer guy either, and I have a question about my cpu. The one that came with the machine is a i7- 7700k and I'm not sure if I should upgrade? It's gone to 100% usage twice while using x-plane on mostly max graphics.

My machine

 i7-7700 , GeForce RTX 2070 8GB, Kingston HyperFury 32GB (4x 8gb) , Oculus Rift S vr headset

That CPU is somewhat old and if it's a new system then it would be a baffling choice, but it is decent enough and slightly exceeds the recommended specification. Upgrading to a modern CPU from either vendor would also require a motherboard replacement so I suggest waiting until you get to try out the simulator on your system and then decide if an upgrade would be worth it. Evidence suggests that the new simulator is a lot more light on CPU resources compared to the current platforms, but on the other hand it will be heavy on the GPU.

Thank you for the info. I didn't think I'd have to replace the motherboard, this was a brand new computer in January and I've already upgraded the GPU from a gtx 1060 3gb to a 2070 8gb and doubled the ram.  I think I'll take your advice and wait for the release and see if I can live with what I've got.

Thanks again!

CPU: 25%, GPU: 81%, RAM: 61%, FPS: 30

Anyone have an ideia about this pc specs and resolution??

I wonder why GPU load isn't higher and therefore FPS. Or are FPS locked to 30?. But... looks awesome. I can't remember flying that close over Manhattan in X-Plane with more than ~18 FPS best case.

Hello,

I found a new unofficial Alpha leak information. It `s translated from this homepage:

Hardwareluxx

"I get around 50fps at 4K resolution and Ultra settings with a 2080Ti. It is real interesting to see how much data is transfered during online streaming. Flying 15 minutes consumed 800MB."

I want to note that this posting has been written in April.
