Purchased Reality XP GNS 530. Buttons won't respond.

Featured Replies

I just purchased and downloaded and installed the Reality XP version of the GNS 530. I have X Plane 11 and was able to start the plugin. I can change settings etc. I was even able to pop it out, as that is how I intend to use the plugin.

However, even though the rotary encoders can be changed via mouse or touch, NONE of the buttons respond. What I have on the screen is a message with a flashing "OK?" that is evidently awaiting a response which I can not give,

How to get started here?

Thank You

Tom

You must cycle through the startup sequence pages by pressing the ENT key after each page loads. Once you get past those startup pages the buttons then work.  The GNS takes a bit of practice to at first get accustomed to.  You will need to learn how to change modes and pages with the lower right inner and outer knobs.  I recommend you Google to find Garmin video tutorials and watch them.  The RXP gauge works like the Garmin GNS as it uses the actual Garmin Trainer as it's engine.

Look for an RXP GNS setting something like "use gps simulator commands" I believe. You must input that setting each aircraft you use the RXP GNS in XP. Good luck, I love these units.. Much better than standard XP GNS.

H Pivot,

Thank you for your reply. I have to admit that I am very new to GPS. Where would I find

I'm not seeing any controls like that so far. Yes, I have been reading the documentation.

Thank You Again

It is mentioned on page 12 of the manual for FSX/P3D. I assume it's the same for the XP manual.

@DavidP yes this is the same. We're trying to achieve feature parity in both simulators overcoming each individual differences as much as we can.

@miner_tom you might have missed it while reading and this is normal, the products have a lot of features and are deeper than they look on the surface. You might want to try a search method next time in your PDF reader, and/or in an online search engine, with these very same words!

My apologies for delay, currently my pc is offline with overheat issues. You need to go to the X-Plane menu/plugins/rxp gas/settings. In the settings menu for the GNS scroll down the list you should find a checkbox for Use Simulator Commands. You may need to open some of the sub-menus to find it but it is there. This allows clicking functions to manipulate the RXP GNS buttons. Good luck Tom and once my thermal paste gets here, I should be able to supply a pic for you. It's delayed till Saturday now.

Hi Pivot, I hope that thermal paste cures your overheat issues. I remember, a long time ago, I had a computer that I thought was having thermal issues. Turned out to be a faulty processor.

I would love a picture, as you say. Yes, I can find the x plane /menu/plugins/rxp gps/settings. Lots of settings except for "Use Simulator Commands".

Thank You for your help so far.

@miner_tom Hi, I'd suggest you:

1) read the User's Manual "Settings" chapter, use the PDF reader search to find this specific setting too.

2) now that you've read the manual and see the category this particular setting is located in, scroll/expand the settings headers to display and change it.

Tom, sorry for the delay, don't frequent AVSIM as much anymore. TP worked though had to back off my OC to get better cooling. Just in case you are still looking for the command see photo below.

Hope this works, not used to sharing pics easier to attach them in other forums.

I'm having exactly the same issue as the OP. I used the aircraft configurator menu to replace the default GNS 530 in a PA31T Cheyenne. It's replacing the unit, but you can tell from the welcoming message on the GPS screen that the gauge is too big somehow and the edges of the welcome screen script are cut off.

Mousing over the click spots reveals that the nav and com buttons are alive as are the rotating knobs at the bottom, i.e. they show a mouse reaction and you can turn the unit on and off, but none of the other buttons do. It is not possible to click "ENTER" because the ENT button doesn't work.

I do not have this issue with the GTN750, it goes in to replace the previous product and works fine. To remove any doubt, I am not trying to replace a 750 with a 530 either. The 530 bezel is intact. This issue occurs with AV off.

I'd appreciate any advice. I had this issue with the Porter a while back but that seems to have been resolved over the past 6-12 months after an update.
