ActiveSky Cloud Art with v5 HF2

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I would like to uninstall ASCA and just use ActiveSky with Enhanced Atmospherics to test out. However, how can I completely uninstall ASCA, i.e., Sky Textures etc., from v5? Do I have to reinstall the P3dv5 client only? Did ASCA change any files in my root P3D folder or just the add-on folder?

Kind regards, S.S

Just add  .off  to the  AS Cloud Art.exe file located in the HiFi folder ( AS Cloud Art.exe.off ) and it will not launch, no need to uninstall in case you want to revert back just take off the .off

Thank you, Joe, I'm aware of this method of not allowing ASCA to launch together with ActiveSky. However, I'm interested in understanding what core files, if any, does ASCA change within the P3Dv5 root folder itself? I went through the ASCA User Guide, yet it doesn't provide any information on how to uninstall the various themes, i.e., Full Dynamics, which change sky textures, cloud structures and textures, etc. If I delete my v5 shaders, does it impact the ASCA files? I'm assuming that everything ASCA and ActiveSky are installed and configured in the add-ons folder?

Just uninstall it from control panel. You'll have to reinstall it when you want to use it. I don'tr like EA. There are issues with this beta implementation. The whole effect is much better with AS and ASCA. If you like soft fuzzy clouds all the time, you'll love EA but to me it is completely unrealistic. When they get a better implementation of EA it could be great though.

EA versus sprite clouds is a separate question. Personally, i’ve flown with EA on for 2 months now and would never go from 3D clouds back to last-decade-style 2D sprites.

However, OP is asking a different question - for those who want to fly EA, how do you cleanse the sim of ASCA’s changes? Does it even change core files?

My guess is that reinstalling the client and deleting the shader cache should do the trick. But i’d also like to know what, if anything, ASCA and similar programs do to the Truesky-related files.

I also like old clouds. already added HF2 the ability to change shaders? Like PTA

In jurisprudence, there is a principle - you look for the person who benefits.

This is an interesting question indeed. I was in a similar situation as the OP a couple of years ago when I had a complicated mixture of ASCA, Envtex/Envshade, and Skyforce which was suggested by some clever guys but started to look strange at a point. All these programs make Backups but in combination you can't trace which textures/shaders were overwritten in which order.

When I wanted to get rid of all the shebang I ended up to reinstall the Client plus the Contents module (I think the latter had to be reinstalled, too). Cleaning shaders is mandatory, of course. This reset me to the original state.

I avoided such intricate combinations since, as good as they may be.

Kind regards, Michael

I think that ASCA doesn't change textures in the sim folder because you can run P3D without starting ASCA and then you will have default clouds and sky. You can do the test: start a scenario without ASCA open and then start ASCA, you'll see new clouds popping.

I don't find reinstalling the whole P3Dv5 is a hard chore anymore, be it client, content etc.. However all you need to do to eliminate traces of ASCA/ENVTEX is just uninstall ActiveSky in the control panel on your manin flightsim PC.

Cheers.

PS: please tell me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've figured here.

You are correct. Just uninstall ASCA and or ASP3D.
