I currently am running 16GB of ram and am thinking about upgrading to 32GB

my motherboard is an ROG_Strix_Z390-F and my current memory is DDR4-2400 in 2 slots.

Am not sure wether to buy 2 16GB sticks and also what would be the best memory

Can anyone give me some advice

Sell your existing stuff, and get 2 x 16gb stikcks of 3200mhz stuff.  Corsair Vengeance is popular, but most is much of a muchness.  See if you can get some gskill stuff if its not much dearer than the corsair

Why not fill up the rest of the slots with two more of the same?

DDR4-2400 mhz are not slow, i don't think you will get much better performance in games with faster ram.

I had a similar thought with my existing system. I have 2x 8gb 2133mhz dimms and have been debating about upgrading to 4x 8gb 2400mhz which is the maximum speed the motherboard can take. Would I see any benefit? I currently have an i7-6700k, gtx1080 and I use a dell u3415w screen. 

I was shopping for a new system but at this point that is on hold until 2021

I do have 2 spare ram slots on the motherboard. I know the ram is not the fastest in the world and I am wondering if it's better to buy 2 more sticks of the same so i have all 4 slots populated or to go for a 32Gb kit of 2 x 16gb stikcks of 3200mhz

If you guys are intending to use the new sim and you're trying a cheap upgrade.....16 to 32 will be well worth it.

The Benefit to having 4 slots is that you have double the memory controller width that can be written/read to/from at the same time....So you have to compare the amount of Data at that speed vs the half the data at a faster speed.....So it is possible that you could replace the 2 Dimms with faster dimes....However you would want a Speed that is going to move that Data at such a higher speed rate that it would be able to outpace the slower speed but at double the memory width...

I've been debating on this upgrade. So far I've never been close to maxing the 16GB RAM with current max settings. Just curious, what improvements would we likely see with going from 16 to 32?

I don't know about improvements but I just mean you'll want the smoothest experience possible....go 32
