August 12, 20205 yr I accessed the weather radar function of windyty https://www.windy.com/?53.814,-2.732,5 - there was a hole in the area where I live - all oranges and purples in the surrounding it - storm was active for a few hours, several big booms, but one almighty crackling boom fairly close which almost gave my missus a heart attack as she'd fallen asleep! Lots of rain.. I can't recall ever having seen such a storm here, usually we get at least some forked lightning... Chock - regarding jamaican woodbines - I guess one could pretty much float anything, let alone a boat depending upon strength.. There were a couple of claps of thunder here that actually shook the house and made the slates on the roof clatter. The dog came running upstairs and jumped on the bed as he was so scared by it. @Ray Proudfoot so my crude dog bowl and tape measure method was fairly accurate then compared to nearby weather stations! 787 captain. Rainfall is extremely variable especially in storms. Keep the bowl in the shade to avoid evaporation. 😁 Ray (Cheshire, England). August 13, 20205 yr Tuesday night it was like the entire sky was alive with electricity. Weirdest thing I've seen for a very long time. Constant flashing and distant rumbling. That's in the Midlands.
