Unrealistic airport lighting in FS2020 beta?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been watching plenty of FS2020 videos and have noticed that some airports have unrealistic airport lighting.  Here is an example:

Chewwy shared a great Grand Canyon video which ends with a landing at Sedona KSEZ.  The runway has centreline lighting and the taxiways have centreline lighting.  According the FAA Aircraft and Facility Directory this is not the case at real KSEZ:

RWY 03–21: H5132X100 (ASPH) S–15, D–30 MIRL 1.8% up NE RWY 03: REIL. PAPI(P4L)—GA 3.0º TCH 43´. RWY 21: REIL. PAPI(P4L)—GA 3.5º TCH 50´. Fence. SERVICE: S2 FUEL 100LL, JET A LGT

ACTIVATE REIL Rwy 03 and Rwy 21, MIRL Rwy 03–21—CTAF. PAPI Rwy 03 and PAPI Rwy 21 opr continuously. Rwy 21 PAPI unusbl byd 2.0 NM.

KSEZ is one of the "hand-drawn" airports so I would hope that it would be as realistic as possible.  I wonder how many other custom and default airports have other flaws and inconsistencies.

Perhaps I am nitpicking but I am hoping the airports are as realistic as possible.

Thanks,
Dan

You are not, and actually I have lost track about how many posts I've already written about issues with the airport lighting. Since Asobo partnered with a data provider I have no idea how these things can happen, especially at iconic airports.

Yet I believe fixing some features at a particular airport is probably the smaller issue. Systemic flaws though are much worse as they affect the entire sim globe and each and every airport. I doubt it but I still hope they are working on them.

I don't think you are nitpicking. Correct lighting at each respective airport is in my opinion one of the core functions of a proper flightsim. After all if you are using it for training, you'll want the aids to reflect what is really there and not have the approach be easier or more difficult than it really is.

Once it's out, people that come across things like this should be sure to bring it up to Asobo's attention so that they can look into it and fix it.

Considering that Sedona is one of the handcrafted airports, I expect them to notice it while they were crafting it.

We're all people in here. Everybody can make errors and mistakes. To be honest, I'm constantly surprised, of the incredible and unobtainable standards, which are prevailing in here! Just relax, point it out to Asobo in the proper forum and give them the benefit of the doubt.

They will get of light here but not on reddit they will not hold back. they will not have rose tinted glasses.

If someone made a mistake in your family, you don't need to put out the big guns NOR the rose-tinted glasses to give feedback in a civil and polite manner. Using words as "I dont understand how they can do this mistake" just sounds wrong to me. They are building a whole world AND a fleet of aircrafts, and what you are pointing out is a *detail*. Yes, details are important, but it's not hard to imagine how such errors can occour.

Having jarring tessellation errors can also be bad when doing VFR, but it's part of the sim world right now, and it is still magnificent. I dont know if you saw the video comparing a real flight into sedona with one done in MSFS, and it was hard to tell the difference. I bet many airports are not lit up all the time too, but are only activated on approach. Those are departures from real life that I think most of us are able to deal with quite nicely. Sure, let's bring them to the attention of Asobo, but let's also not pretend it breaks the sim into thousand pieces.

Hi Andreas, you’re right the scenery and texturing is stunning! That video is excellent and really highlights the incredible work that Asobo has been up to.

Hopefully the lighting bug can be corrected prior to release if reported by a beta tester. If not I’ll happily open a service ticket. I agree it is a minor issue.

This is business not family.

Testing FS will not stop at release, and MS have already stated those that wish to will carry on testing.

An an analogy to the above would be, "I have a 1kg bar of gold, but it has a scratch so I'm throwing it in the bin"!!

Maybe so, I’m very impressed despite the minor bug. It was more of a heads up and to see if any beta testers had noticed the same.

I will happily keep the bar of gold!

😄
