This is the info I am hoping will be reveled after Tuesday. I am thinking if going AMD with their greater level 3 cache if that makes a difference. Or Intel if less cores matter less but a higher "possible" single core speed would be better. August 15, 20205 yr I was going to wait for the Ryzen 4000 but then Microsoft decided to release MFS next week, so I instead built a new Ryzen 3700X system. It's above the "high end" specs released for the sim by MS so I'm sure it will do just fine for me. I needed to replace my old i5-2500K system as it was just not going to be adequate for MFS.
August 15, 20205 yr My philosophy is that not knowing how the sim that calls for the GPU to do most of the work, uses the CPU and manages the load over physical and virtual cores, it is urgent to wait before upgrading to Intel or AMD, listening to early adopters and people like @SteveW Dominique Simming since 1981 - [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam
August 15, 20205 yr Commercial Member I have an Intel i7 4970k with an Nvidia 970. My next system will very likely be an AMD CPU and an ATI GPU. REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations
August 15, 20205 yr From the Digital Foundry video it seems that, in external view at least, you can hit at least 60 FPS before being CPU-limited with a Zen 2 CPU. Considering that add-on aircraft won't bog down performance further, that Microsoft are already working on some CPU optimisation issues for a post-launch update, and that the DirectX 12 upgrade will free CPU resources even more, perhaps a Zen 2 CPU is all that's needed for a smooth 60 FPS experience. But yes, it is expected that Zen 3 will win in single-threaded performance, and as a result, beating Intel in all respects. Rocket Lake has a rumoured IPC uplift of 10% which just won't be enough to compete. It seems that Intel are finally sorting out their 10nm process with SuperFin technology, which will debut with Tiger Lake, but we will not see desktop CPUs based on that until Alder Lake, coming in H2 2021. And then we'll have Zen 4 on 5nm...

August 15, 20205 yr Small die size does not equate to more raw performance, better efficacy = less power need for the same performance but will not allow higher clocks. Raymond Fry.

All new consoles will have AMD and all knows that this new generation wiill use more cores to have a powerfull graphics setting. Now MSFS2020 is in Directx11 and will change to the new Directx 12 Ultimate. I hope that update will use more cores. Edited August 15, 20205 yr by lopentan My Twitch Channel

Hang in there friend, the Ryzen 4000 is just around the corner and looks like it will be quite much faster than the 3000... I know it hurts but it may be possible to get them in November... +15% IPC, vastly improved floating point performance, better L3 cache and maybe 5Ghz for the top models. Engineering samples have been spotted running at 4.9. It looks very promising...
