how do you remove VC and {or} the and fly with just the hud?

Featured Replies

anyone know how to fly with just the hud?

IE...removing the VC or the aircraft in chase view.

seen it on the beta videos.

Yes, I wonder about this too. A cockpit-free forward view is exactly what I want, since i use a touch screen + AirManager for cockpit.

AirManager doesn't support MSFS2020 yet, but I think it will soon.

If a cockpit-free view not possible, we may have to setup an external camera at the front of the plane nose? Doesn't sound like a fun option.

It's what I want too, Fly. If anyone knows how to get this,please let us know!

For now, I just set a custom interior view that is pushed as far forward as possible. Works quite well in the Cub I am flying at the moment, with just the engine cowling and prop in the view.

How to eliminate the VC view inside the cockpit:

As an example: to remove the VC in the MSFS 2020 Airbus A320 airliner.

1.) Locate your airplane's model folder:

C:\Users\[youruserfolder]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_*************\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\asobo-aircraft-a320-neo\SimObjects\AirPlanes\Asobo_A320_NEO\model

2.) Open the model.cfg file in the Model folder with Windows Notepad or another text editor..

3.) Locate the instructions for displaying the normal exterior model and the interior aircraft VC (usually the last lines in the text file):

[models]
normal=A320_NEO.xml
interior=A320_NEO_INTERIOR.xml

4.) Comment out the interior VC model description by placing a semicolon at the beginning of the line as follows:

;interior=A320_NEO_INTERIOR.xml

5.) Save the file and exit.  Make sure it has the same model.cfg filename.  Restart MSFS  2020 and reload the aircraft.

Do this for each airplane that you would like a full screen cockpit view with no VC.

*** For some reason, the windowframes are still showing.  If anyone knows how to eliminate these, please post it.  They're not that obtrusive though.

Be aware that there is no ability to display 2D instrument panels in MSFS 2020 yet even though the SDK has instructions for implementing one.

That means all the controls and buttons you need to push to fly the airplane must be programmed into your controller(s) and keyboard via the Controls menu.

Hope that helps!

If you change both normal and interior views with a ; in front of the text you will have a perfectly clear view!

Wow, this is BIG!

My favorite setup is VC free view with touch screen panel running Air Manager. Now I just wish Air Manager 4.0 coming out soon enough so I can run it with MSFS.

Now if we could just get the shift + z command to work so I can see my altitude and airspeed when in clear cockpit view I'd be in heaven!!

The heaven will be that I can run a second copy or window of MSFS dedicated to VC view only on a touch screen. That's an instant glass home cockpit.

You can download the v4.0 Beta from the Air Manager forum which I have had working with MSFS. Seems to be a bit of a framerate hit, though...

I already tried AM 4.0 beta, it runs, but doesn't connect to MSFS. I downloaded and run their flighsim plugin on MSFS computer that still no luck. Is there a plugin specific for 4.0?

I've been also wondering about this! Definitely a view for home cockpit builders and those of us who fly with dedicated flight sim hardware! Thanks so much for this!

I hope that Asobo can implement a built-in feature where we can have a view preset without the VC present in sim without having to manually edit the cfg file. Simply changing it in the camera settings on the fly would be a much better and quicker solution.

I plan to use my entire screen as the view and purchase a yoke, rudder, throttle, and perhaps find a way to get the avionics such as the G3X, G1000, etc to display on an iPad or something. Will air manager allow that?
