August 20, 20205 yr How do you delete or disable the Manual Cache and free up the space on the drive? Please let me know. I want to remove it but there is no option to do so..... August 20, 20205 yr Author Not sure, I'm not at my computer right now. But you may want to try selecting all your regions and deleting them 1st? If not, you may have to manually delete the cache file and reload the sim. See if that works. If not, then MS/Asobo need to add a delete button. That's what I am thinking... either a bug or I am missing it. I can go into Windows and manually delete the .ccc file but I hope that does not cause the sim to crash the next time I start it. A file that size does not go to the Recycle Bin, so unless I copy that huge file to somewhere else as a backup first, it wont be recoverable if the Sim chooses to go belly up. The 30xx ampere cards with 24GB can't come soon enough. We 4k simmers will definitely need a card with as much VRAM as possible. Are you flying in an area with high density and a lot of photogrammetry such as Manhattan? The way I deleted the manual cache was to first set its size to 0 in the menu and then manually delete the manual cache file itself. I had no issues after taking those steps...your mileage may vary. January 6, 20215 yr It is my understanding at this point in time that the rolling cache is "broken". The manual cache however works for areas that have photogrammetry scenery. Be aware that caching at the high setting produces large files. Here's a link to the list as of August 2020 of all the photorealistic cities in MSFS 2020. https://www.fanbyte.com/guides/a-complete-list-of-all-photorealistic-cities-in-microsoft-flight-simulator-2020/ Watch the video for an example of the difference between low medium and high setting.I cached several airports and surrounding areas on high setting in Seattle and the results were great.Bit of a FPS hit. Hopefully they will get the rolling cache fixed sometime soon. The areas you cache are listed in the UI under "manual cache" and can be deleted individually (tick the box) or use select all to remove all cached areas. Asobo, if you are listening please make the cached files listed renameable.
January 6, 20215 yr I suspect that Asobo doesn't even know what manual and rolling cache do, there is no detail explanation of purpose, someone was smoking something when the idea came to light. January 6, 20215 yr I have a rolling cache and a manual cache covering the area around my hone airport. Just checked and found that "manual cache" is greyed out in MSFS. No idea how that happened.
