August 21, 20205 yr With a next generation flight sim, I was expecting next generation features, which for the most part has happend, except for a couple of big things: The road traffic looks to be the same as it did in fs9 and fsx. But most of all, ai traffic and atc has not improved since the days of fs9 (17 years ago!)… poor ground handling, no separation on landing resulting in go arounds, atc vectoring the user into high terrain, etc. I think its too bad that this aspect of the game wasn't even touched during development at all. the only difference i've seen is a slightly different ATC UI, more generic sounding voices, and a few added functions such as requesting fuel. August 21, 20205 yr Commercial Member To be fair about it, I have noticed new features and some bug fixes over FSX. Specifically: - ATC now knows about departure and arrival procedures. - The bug where if an AI was taxiing behind you they would receive endless "Hold Position...continue Taxi" orders doesn't happen any more. - So far as I can see the very wide approach vectors and "slalom-course" vectors have been eliminated. - The very annoying situation where if you are ready for takeoff and any aircraft has been cleared to land on your runway you would be held even if it takes 10 minutes for him to get there has been changed. Yesterday I was cleared for takeoff after another aircraft had been cleared to land on my runway, because he was far enough out. Yes, there are still lots of bugs, but it's not a copy, there have been changes and improvements and so we can have an expectation that they will be further improving it. It's actually on their development list as "in process". Dutch I only heard reports of users being vectored into hills, so this kind of sounds encouraging. give me some accurate ai models and liveries and im happy 😄(probably would come from third parties) Marco D'Agostino

Many take the procedural MSA into account because they know it, but along an arbitrary vector course each potential point has to be calculated and elevation data is not readily available from the FSX/P3D platform - you have to use a "hook" and that's platform-specific and thus fragile. If MSFS does so in the future it will be a major feature for me. August 22, 20205 yr Contrary to what some people are suggesting, it is a slight improvement on previous ATC in FS and P3D. There is certainly less vectoring you all over the place when getting near an airport, and less handing you off to every controller on the planet along your route because you flew within a thousand miles of their control centre, which is as it should be really, ATC do not constantly bother pilots, and especially ones who are IFR and are on track and at their assigned altitude. I am sure there will be a third party ATC add-on along before too long which will improve matters. But there are always going to be some things even a fancy payware ATC add-on will not be able to do. In the meantime, if it bothers anyone, just hand off the radio duties to your co-pilot. Edited August 22, 20205 yr by Chock Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

August 22, 20205 yr I dream about an intelligent ATC, which Microsoft already owns, Cortana. They just need to make a copy of that knowledge base and tailor her just to behave like an Atc controller, analysing the sim parameters and directing planes according to their plan, position intention etc...and still not losing the Cortana database. Meaning if you suddenly ask "How are you today" she gracefuly replies: "Fine thank you, sir" . Or you could declare an emergency and she will give you vectors for nearest airport. Give weather updates, have short human like politeness with simmers good day, good evening, thank you, you are welcome etc And for subsequent non professional interventions she just shoves off non aviation talk and resorts to the flight intentions. She could also be male or multiple different voices of different Atc stations, but the core is just Cortana.

But they belong to other companies. Cortana is owned by Microsoft, so MS-Bing-Cortana can create a lively flightsim planet. Which at the same time would boost both (Bing and Cortana) in a very difficult race with competitors where today these MS creations are far behind
August 22, 20205 yr I have only done a few flights with the new atc but I am ok with it. It gets the job done for my purposes and I keep navigraph up to sort of keep an eye on things. I would say its functionally 12 year old atc. I for sure like it much more than the fsx atc it was modified from. [XP11 BETA/FS2020 BETA] [Pilotedge BETA/Vatsim BETA]
