October 29, 200619 yr All right... I am running out of things to do in FSX.The only place thats is half decent to fly around is actually Princes Julliana airport. Its got nice phototextures and well placed objects and light house and birds and lots and lots of water..and boats and ships. Its got lots of things... Its nice to fly a chopper...and land a jet in that small airport.I also found Aspen not too bad. What other places are there that is of that quality? When I go to some random spots.. Its a mess. Its like a bunch of stuff thrown in there. Its like walking into an unorganized closet. I really would like to know what the organized spots in FSX are. You know.. I don't want rectangle Islands and straight lines as coasts. Are there spots like that in FSX?Any spot you have noticed that are nice.. apart from your home town that you might have a sport corner for. Please do post your home town if it is indeed of nice quality area in FSX. :)Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 29, 200619 yr The Washington DC area is pretty cool, has a lot of the Buildings you expect- Wash Monument, White House, Pentagon, etc. Take off from Ronald Regan Airport in the Ultralight and take the tour!Flt300Z
October 29, 200619 yr Looking on the web for real world flights is good but it depends which aircraft you fly. World records can be fun.I hit the same spot as you back in 2003 so started a round the world flight in light aircraft looking for countries I thought were nice. 40,000nm later I am still going. Started with a flight straight to Cairo from England then over to the small stuff, down east africa, back up through east europe, across the middle of Russian Fed, back along the south of the Russian Fed including a detour through some of China, down around the middle east and now in Iran. This flight follows a sort of zig-zag visiting capital cities, lakes and anywhere i think looks nice on the map. It also visits every country and while there I explore a bit. Now in a country I cannot spell North East of Iran. Sounds weird but it's OK. South Africa is nice and you could try somewhere a lot don't go to such as Afghanistan which has great scenery.I have time to kill this weekend so I am crossing the Atlantic via Greenland and Iceland in the Ultralight, now flying the first leg for the second time cos I ran out of fuel CYVM > BGSS. Might never make it but I will keep trying.Been round the world non stop a few times. Followed a real concorde route one time, took 42 hours. If you have FS9 try one of the historic flights. The MacRobertson is good if you can keep going for about 70 hours with a couple of hours sleep at a few stops on the way.You could join a VA or IVAO where we have lots of events that people fly to.Lots of other ideas but I'll let someone else have a say :)[EDIT] Don't forget if you fly something like the Maule or a Helicopter you are not retricted by the airports.Andrew Brown
October 29, 200619 yr Andrew, nice one. So many simmers don't realise how much scenery and views they have in flightsim programs, only electing to fly within 500 miles of their locality.I really like Alaska and flying along the valleys between the mountains. While I was with 'Knight Air' I completed three RTW's (round the world trips) the first with Concorde and the rest with somewhat slower aircraft. October 29, 200619 yr Andrew.. Good Idea. I should do what you are doing a lot more than messing with my PC.:)I actually have some good spots in FS9 to fly. Most of them are where I have add on sceneries.I was looking for some nice spots in FSX where the sim scenery is good. I tried London and it didn't look good compared to my FS9+addon. But I really like Juliana airpor and St.Barths in FSX. Since the FSX water is so good.. I tend to fly only in spots where there are water. so..Atleast I have that going for me. The dawn/dust textures are also very good in FSX. So flying around that time with "Bloom" effect is good. Night flying in FSX default ain't too bad. Can't see all the disorganized autogens. But the good things are accentuated like moon and the water etc.In FS9, the default Sydney airport was nice too. But here most of the airports are now real crap because..while they added some things to the airport. They took out the photo textures and that flat cardboard green is a big downer. The mesh data is much imoroved in many spots. I have also compensated with Justin's FSGenesis mesh. I am really waiting for Ultimate Terrain to clean up the coasts and lakes and such. Then, I should fly around. MannyEdited to add: I found... joining in the mutliplayer..gives me an apportunity to see some good spots in FSX where I might otherwise never go and miss out. The area around Rio is good.. FSX is decent around that area. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

If you're using real weather, that could be a pain this time of year, with north Atlantic storms...Actually, on second thought, flying the ultralight from Canada to Greenland to Iceland to Europe is pretty crazy. :)RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
October 30, 200619 yr I am almost exclusively flying in and out of Sion (LSGS). I've actually been flying there since FS2000 and know the area so well by now that I can do night flying there - and considering the whole area is pretty much mountains that is no joke. Seriously, I think it's the single greatest location in all of the world - mountains, plains, big airports, small airports in the middle of nowhere, relatively big airports in the middle of nowhere, challenging approaches, great plains, lakes, etc. The stretch of mountains that Sion is in (Swiss Alps basically) covers France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland (plus someone else I'm forgetting - I'm bad at geography). There are some really nice soaring spots too - infact I don't use a tow plane, my usual soaring experience consists of choosing a good location (a tree-less slope, you can find lots of those at about 7000-9000 feet) in a helicopter, landing, switching to either the ultralight or the sailplane, then just carting down the slope and taking off. You really get that whole "holy #### I'm flying!" rush doing this.Infact, my favourite glider launching spot is positioned perfectly so that I can glide down to Sion and land on the back-up runway (it has a little grass strip beside the main one).EDIT: Just to clarify - Sion is not my home airport or anything like that. I've never been there in real life.
October 30, 200619 yr I have been exploring the Salt Lake City Utah area. The contrast of desert, lake and mountains looks very nice. Especially with real weather and cloud build ups over the mountains. Bob... Bob Prince
October 30, 200619 yr I fly the helos around....pretty much wherever...I like to try to land on thoes yacht and ship helipads, aand the oil rigs too. I like to buzz cars, and fly through cities with the extra 300 and turn up all the autogen, its rough @ 10 fps, but looks so nice at 50 ft AGL LOLOtherwise I fly around my home state of north dakota....venturing out to other citie/countries once in a while | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

October 30, 200619 yr I usually fly around KSMX because that is where I live. It's great because I can fly to Santa Barbara, Los Angeles airports or to KSFO if I wanna go north. However I don't think anyone mentioned Alaska! You can fly seaplanes, helo's and gliders with some stunning scenery.Since cities give me FPS under 10 I have been sticking to the great outdoors and having a blast doing it. Once I upgrade I will fly over cities more often.O Yea, I also want to mention Big Bear California airport. That's a challenge because you have to make sure and do your run up before taking off to make sure you have enough power to take off. Great mountain flying, perfect for a glider also.
October 30, 200619 yr >>EDIT: Just to clarify - Sion is not my home airport or>anything like that. I've never been there in real life.Have you ever flown over the top, to the Interlaken area?I have been there in real life. The walls of the valleys literally are pretty vertical in many places. That was the thing that struck me about the Swiss Alps. The reason for that is because they were once glacier tracks--carved deep by ice.P.S. I like your glider takeoff method. hehe. I will have to try that one.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

How do you do it without crashing? I had to turn off crash detection. Otherwise, I slid down the meadow, crashing.Maybe I need to find a less steep slope...RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
November 1, 200619 yr I've created a spreadsheet of all the airports United , United Express, and their partners use. I fly the CRJ700 United Express scheme and I am going to fly to all of the airports via hub to dest. back to a hub. There's only 206 U.S. and Canada Airports to fly to. (Yeah my wife HATE'S this game.)Oh and stay out of San Juan (TJSJ). I left Orlando INTL at 1800 EST and was told to go around 3 times. Never going back to that airport. (I also have AI traffic turned up. I was sick of landing at KORD or KATL and having no traffic.)
