AMD/Radeon GPU users

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Do we have here AMD/Radeon users with graphic cards like RX 5600, 5700, +XT, RX590 etc. ? 😃

Question is did you find any useful/good settings in AMD adrenaline software which should be turn on/off for Flight Simulator 2020 ? or any other tweaks which can be "AMD related" ?

I'm running on MSI RX 5700 XT with 20.8.2 drivers, for the time being I just only changed Texture Quality Filtering to Performance mode 😉

Not really tweaked much of anything on mine because the sim itself has a lot of the sliders necessary to get very good performance. I have changed the ATI software itself to now automatically detect and D/L Driver and Software updates (I used to do this manually), since MSFS will be patching fairly regularly and banging out new features, I want the GPU to have the latest drivers ASAP.

I tried using different settings in adrenaline but i found that leaving all disabled and let FS control the graphics is the best setting for me. I am using RX 5500XT, but I want to upgrade my GPU, not sure if I should keed with AMD (Msi Rx 5700XT Mech) or go to nVidia (Asus dual RTX 2060 Super).

Regarding drivers updates I did the same, now AMD software is checking automatically. Like i wrote currently im using gaming profile under graphic settings + I changed texture quality filtering to performance.

Unfortunately I don't have rights to FlightSimulator.exe so I can't add it under games in AMD software.

According to https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/microsoft-flight-simulator-(2020)-pc-graphics-performance-benchmark-review,6.html

there is no much difference between 5700 XT and 2060 super and 2070 super on ultra in FullHD like 1/2 FPS.

Waves and depth of field is Medium and can't complain even on high settings.

How is the performance with the Radeon 5700 XT, can it handle 3440X1440 at High settings with a top of the line cpu?

On my second computer that I was testing on because it has an i7, I have a 5700XT and it can handle slightly higher settings than my RTX2070 can. Running 1440p with render scale at 110 and a combination of medium and high settings. it can easily run on all high if i render at 100, but i've found that the overall experience is better with a slightly boosted render and compromising on a few other items. It runs between 75% and 90%, with occasional spikes to about 100%. I vsync at 30hz for both my cards. Both run the sim well and I can tie all my stutters to my CPU, for both the i5-9600k or i7-9700k.

Just running pretty vanilla. I think surface format optimization on and antistropic set to 16x.

I think that's one difference between the Steam edition and the MS Store and Game Pass versions.  My AMD software doesn't detect it either.

My best "overall" settings for my modest i5 7400 and RX 589 is High across the board with Terrain LOD at 25 and Object LOD at 50 to lessen CPU load.  This gives me acceptable frames and visual quality.  I can move up to Ultra across the board, as long as I keep Terrain LOD at 25 and Object LOD at 50.  But my  "high" setting is sufficient enough for me and worth the few extra FPS and general smoothness.

The difference maker, for me, however, is to not jump in right after you push "Ready to Fly".  My CPU is still crunching numbers and it's apparent by the stutters and pauses when I use the FOV to scan the cabin.  I FOV around the cabin before I even start doing anything in the cockpit.  Once I can FOV with no hesitation or pauses, then I know my system is ready for flight.

Yup, AMD needs to address this. Surely they can, since Nvidia was able to. Hopefully the next driver update.

Anyone with an AMD card, please submit a ticket/feedback to AMD about this so they get pressure to address it.

Ryzen 5 3600, with a 5700XT... I was doing fine... but now there is some odd stuff going on. Every session I crash to desktop. It is brutal. I had my GPU Auto Overclocking, I am back to default to see if that helps. I am getting good performance if it works... 40-45 fps consistently. But I have had a few problems. One is the VRAM goes to 150 percent at times. I have no idea why. Another is, MSFS shows up twice on the Radeon software... I don't know what is causing this bug. Anyways... not sure if it is a FS issue or GPU issue

I have the same card.  How did you manage to add FS to it?

I'm at 3440x1440 with a 2600x and getting 70fps by the looks of it. Again on high setting but waves and depth of field at medium and vsync off.

it was automatic, do you have the Steam edition ?

I have the same setup Ryzen 5 3600 + 5700 XT and didn't have CTD yet, both CPU and GPU are running on 'stock'.

Ok so it seems that MS store version AMD software won't detect and we are not able to add Flightsimulator.exe, if you have Steam then you can do some setup under AMD software.

I will check with Waves and depth of field, my current settings on FullHD AOC 28" monitor are mostly High or ultra and for example with Cessna 172 G1000 on ORBX LOWI I have like 50 FPS, with A320 42.

I bought mine from Microsoft.  I've never even heard of Steam until I came to this site.  I was able to unlock access to the install folder but can't gain access to the executable.
