August 30, 20205 yr Started the sim today after using it for 2 weeks, for some reason it started asking me all the initial setup questions again. When I went into controllers, all my controllers have been defaulted again. I'm resigned to the fact I will need to redo them all again, but is there a file somewhere I can backup once I have done it again incase this happens again?
August 30, 20205 yr Moderator I don't know for sure it will work as expected but you can save your control profiles using the profile manager.- save them under a different name. Then if your default goes kaput you could reload the saved profile. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

August 30, 20205 yr If you installed your controllers software AFTER you configured your controller initially it will do this because the hardware ID is different despite the hardware name appearing the same. For example. If you setup a CH Products yoke without having its control manager installed, then after the fact installed CH Products Control Manager even though MSFS/Windows has it named the same, the hardware identification will be different and in turn all your presets will be gone because to MSFS its a completely different controller plugged in. This isn't MSFS issue, it's a basic driver difference issue.. August 30, 20205 yr Make a habit of backing up the following folder from time to time. C:\Users\ [YourID] \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs (Just paste the above into your windows explorer address field) Among other things, a local copy of your bindings is kept here. This folder backup can be useful in an emergency to help restore your bindings without having to create them all again (You can create empty controller configs in MSFS and copy and paste into them using your backed up folder contents) I did this to transfer all my bindings over from the Alpha to the release without having to recreate them all again. Thanks what do you mean create empty controller configs, I back my system nightly so if I start up and there gone could I not just drop that folder and overwrite what's currently there, thanks Edited August 30, 20205 yr by Jetman67 Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
August 30, 20205 yr No,. it's not that easy. in a nutshell, Go into MSFS and create an empty config for your controller. Exit MSFS Then go to "C:\Users\ [YourID] \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs" and look though the recently created folders. Within, you will find lots of folders. Sort by date to get the newest to the top. Within each folder you will find a file with a huge random name Drop it onto an editor (like Notepad++) If its just garbage, close it and move to the next folder and so on. Eventually you will come across a file that references your recently created config. You then need to locate your backed up file for that controller (searching through in the same way) Then copy and past everything between the "Device" Tags <Device DeviceName="Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant" GUID="{9A716F40-9B6C-11EA-800F-444553540000}" ProductID="3117"> < ----- Everything from here, but not the top or bottom "Device" lines </Device> and past into the new empty one, replacing anything that was between the "Device" tags Save, and load the sim MSFS should see that the file is newer than the copy on the cloud at it will be loaded and the cloud updated. Warning! Do this at your own risk. DO NOT ATTEMPT if you are unsure what you are doing. Note: Every time you save a config, MSFS gives it a new GUID (random filename) Specs: Win10, 4790K, nVidia 1080ti, Saitek Yoke+Quadrant+Radio/Switch and AP panels, VRInsight 737 overhead, Virtual Avionics 737 MCP. 3 x 1440*900 main display + 1024*600 VDU display. August 31, 20205 yr What is best to use for Parking Brake Release? Suggestion for a key or button? Also the yoke keeps turning right in the settings and sim - i.e. it won't 'center'. Tried assigning a button to 'aileron center'. That works as a hack, but it just goes back to slow death spiral right. AP won't work properly because this keeps interfering. Has anyone seen or fixed this?! Thanks! SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.
August 31, 20205 yr Seemingly random control inputs is usually caused by a button or axis being assigned to do multiple things. Check your control assignments for duplicate functions. Edited August 31, 20205 yr by RoboRay
