EA : orange glow with dusk/dawn onder OC and black objects

Just found out that If I disable my weather program (FSGRW) and use the default presets or slightly modified presets it looks much better. Then I do not see the oranje fog around me.

What remains weird is that with an OC and Dawn the sun and the orange atmosphere around it can be seen below the clouds ...

Yes indeed. I saw it yesterday as I just flew around a bit in Default F22 at EDDF. It seems FSGRW has to much "haze" generated. I am now on my way from LSZH to MMUN above the Atlantic.....and the outside is almost complete white due the haze/fog.

What II have in mind is that Damian stated that none Weather program is at this state capable of injection proper weather. I am curious how Pilots solved this...maybe a "not supported" way wich passes by some processes/things?

What I really hope is that with  ASP3D there are better Cloud models. with FSGRW almost all the clouds look the same...very boring and not realistic as I think.

4 Models via cloud.cfg is just way to less. LM did really a minimum  implementation and probably more focused und technical parts as visual parts. Truesky will not com alive as it is now.

We have to bring LM to let 3.Party make use of much more configuration possibilities OR LM should do a proper setup ONES and for all.

Than we can at least enjoy it for now. Open up the CFG possibilities and finding solutions for 3. Party can come after that.

I read the truesky documentation a little and looked at the Cloud.CFG from LM, the 4 models  are really minimal.

Cumulus and Cumulonimbus look almost exact the same in the sim. You can try it out. Use a custom setup for weather and only change the cloudtype.....you will see almost no change.

I am a little disappointed after 6 months release of truesky almost nothing has changed visually spoken.

Beta testers can tell things to LM but we know not much about that.

We, as users, are able to post things on all kind of forums incl the LM forum.

RobMcCarthy wrote that they will take a look at several issues with EA.

There will be a HF so I am curious to what will be fixed ( and what not ... )

And it also looks like we wont ever be able to play with trueSKY shaders, just what LM give us. This is a real retrograde step given the platform has been highly configurable from the off

http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6312&t=140101

I don´t need to play with shaders. It is important that they find a good "average" way of implementing. But this is too minimalistic. When simmers can "adjust" some settings it will be better as creating shaders. This causes trouble on much platforms (AKA XPlane, FSX. P3D). The overall Atmospheric look of MSFS is not perfect at all, but much better done as P3D now is. Also the clouds are in its current state better compared to P3D. Of course it is a lot of "taste". But overall speaking the "Atmospheric" look is very good. But we are here for P3D. ;.)

Also cloud shading, lighting modelling is all possible. Rainbows too.....rainshafts, thunderstormslightning, I did not see anything from this in.

But most important are various cloudmodels which should be possible to create and used by a weather addon, lightbehaviour (good exposure, humidity which influences the scattering, shadows, rain, visibility, fog, sky colorizing, cloudshading). Flying in overcast/under overcast and having sunshine in your cockpit is not realistic at all.

Marcus, If you have FSGRW you can try expanding Visibility to 300 and see If that helps.  Default is 160.

I just went through the settings and saw that. I will try it tomorrow. Thanks Gerard. I will report back

For now I will go back to regular weather and not TrueSky.

- orange/gold glow around you when you are below clouds in dusk/dawn

- to much haze, especially when using a zoom of 0.60

- you can see black objects below the clouds when flying above the clouds ; eg windmills and towers in TE Netherlands and taxiway and runway signs

V5.1 shows its potentional but has been released 1-2 months too early ..

Hmm, reading this I'm not sure if I want to update to 5.1 at all. My current pre-5.1 version works quite well for me now. Are there any practical benefits in v5.1 to compensate for the issues you describe? I don't want to fly without TS.

Thanks.

Hi Dirk,

If you haven’t upgraded yet then you probably better wait till the Hotfix is out.

At this moment you can fly with V5.1 during daytime or at night with EA enabled .

When flying at dawn/dusk you better disable EA.

Performance with EA is very good ....

The point being, you are stuck with what LM have given us without allowing the trueSKY SDK to be used in P3D

From the Simul SDK: https://docs.simul.co/programming/performance.html

From that documentation:

uc?export=view&id=15umAiTs9t8mG_gJyOx5MR

Not sure what we can get away with via the .sfxo to .sfxb?  See D:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\trueSKY\shaderbin ... anyone tried modifications?

Key notes are "grid size"  and "noise values" ... unfortunately grid size seems to be controlled internally and we have no access to modification (without hacking).  But cloud resolution is capped at 1024 via trueSKY so there is no way we'll see those 4096 x 4096 textures using the old "front facing" sprite method of cloud depiction.  Not sure what MSFS clouds use but my guess is 256-512 res range.

As you can see Amortization is probably not an option for aircraft moving 250 Kts or with Wind speeds that can be set to 220 Kts.

I think if LM open the EA/trueSKY door wider with what we can do, they'll be in a better position ... let the creative users go to town and absolve themselves from it.

Cheers, Rob.

These settings will mask the grid a little less noticeable and the clouds sharper :

Cumulus + Cumulonimbus:

worley noise : 0.9

worley scale : 4.0

edge sharpness : 2.7

@Rob_Ainscough about the amortization part - I actually have hopes for it. When implemented properly, temporal reprojection can compensate for rather fast movements. MSFS is using it and other than slight pixelization and graininess, it looks perfectly fine.

I just hope they expose more of their trueSKY implementation with upcoming releases.
