Is anybody here, just THRILLED with FSX?

I am. I am the only one? No, it is not perfect. Performance was horrible at first, but really good now with default.xml gone, and all the previous tweaks, autogen .spb files reworked by forum members etc. etc.. What we have now is an amazing platform for future versions, that is usable today, at least for me on my Dell XPS Gen 2 laptop that is now almost 2 years old with a 256 Nvidia GeForce 6800 GO Ultra card, and a fresh 2 GIG RAM system memory. My processor is a Moblie Pentium M2.0 GZ. This machine runs FSX great in 1920x1600x32 and FSX rocks! It really does... yet, I am one of the few that can run it well on a modest machine.. by today's standards. The accurate terrain, graphic image quality, colors, look and feel are far above that of FSX. For a real pilot like myself, far better flight feeling that FS9. From the jets that I love, to discovering bush flying in Alaska, WY and MT... FS9 is outrageously beautiful, and very, very smooth and usable (with default.xml gone).... even near major cities. I run with scenery density on very, and terrain resolution max, terrain mesh max and texture resolution on 1. No AI traffic, cars or airport vehicles... sacrifices I had to make. But again, the graphics are stunning... how many of you have just yet spent hours flying, and appreciating what we have for the future....Oh well, enough rambling, I have not posted much since FSX came out, I have been just too busy flying it (yes, yes, the default aircraft are not PMDG quality nor, Level D, nor even Ariane, yet, yet, they do fly smooth and visually, from the best virtual cockpit graphics ever) .. I am in love with the blowing snow, wet runways and thermals... and more... Peter

You're not the only one - I love it too! After initial dissapointment with the demo, I did end up getting FSX when it came out - and well, I can say my experience now is awesome.I did have to add some RAM to my system (up to 2GB), but I have it running great now considering my hardware (which is modest, but not mega state of the art - like about 1 year or so behind current standards). No blurries, no stuttering, totally smooth, at 1440x900 pixels, and without any tweaks other than some config one's (all the texture reduction stuff I removed). I still have the autogen building and trees tweak in the config, that one did help me a lot. I can get quite a bit of AI traffic and full weather effects, and scenery dense enough to get the jetways, and I can also have limited ground traffic at the airports. I did finally turn off the vehicles on the roads, the performance impact wasn't really worth it.Personally I think the sim looks amazing, a great improvement over FS9 (even when maxed out), and the flight model updates - well that's something MSFS has needed for a long time, I love flying in the new sim, it gives such a great sensation of flight. The weather effects are great, turbulance and wind shear seem very realistic now, and I can almost feel the bumps when my g meter and altitude/airspeed are jumping around as I fly down through the clouds over the mountains into a beautiful snowy scene, and trying to hold my wings level! And cross wind landings are far more realistic now, plus we have ground effect! Really it's a great step forward, and a pleasure to fly - even the default aircraft are pretty good, and I can't wait to see what the 3rd party developers bring out.Okay I'm rambling too - but to me, FSX is just wonderful. Yes, it has it's quirks and some bugs in some of the aircraft (normal - and fixed when people start bringing out upgraded panels!), but I've done many flights already (I generally fly IFR and mostly in the US, but occasionally elsewhere) and just think it's great!I run it on my laptop too - P4 2.8GHZ HT, 2GB DDR II RAM 667Mhz, ATI Mobility Radeon 600 (128MB - that's my main limitiation), 17" TFT widescreen display.

I like FSX too. No. Performance is still bad.But nevertheless... But for the performance...I like FSX. Thinking of what addon vendors could do with FSX, It'll blow FS9 out of the water. Just not today.Manny

I LOVE it. Best sim I ever flown. Well done Microsoft.Stelios

Well I have to say I am very happy with this sim. I have a MacPro computer with ATI Radeon1900 card and it

I'm also loving FSX. After a few initial tweaks, it honestly runs well on my system. There is just no comparison with FS9, and I don't think I could go back to FS9 in fact. There are many things I like about FSX, such as the high resolution ground terrain textures, the road traffic (Woohoo!), the increased variety of trees, and the overall increased realism. Absolutely gorgeous!I guess the only complaint I have is that dual-core and SLI should have been taken advantage of, I think this was the biggest mistake on MS' part for leaving it out. They could have avoided a lot of unhappy simmers this way, and more attention could have been focused on what an advancement FSX really is and it's incredible features. Other than that, I have to praise them for the wonderful and amazing piece of work that FSX is!

Maybe you should proofread a little beter:>It really does... yet, I am one of the few that can run it>well on a modest machine.. by today's standards. Great that you are enjoying yourself with the new sim.

I think Peter was carried away so much by FSX that he mixed up FSX and FS9 a bit. It's very understandable. I too think that FSX in many ways is stunningly beautiful.Best regards, Chris

Peter, you're definitely not the only one. I have absolutely no doubts that, despite its rough edges, FSX is by far the best flight sim I've ever used.On my reasonably good computer I've applied three tweaks and I'm generally satisfied with frame rates. In terms of graphics, scenery and environment FSX is almost outrageously beautiful. I still find myself just staring at those crisp, high resolution ground textures. There are problems but I'm reasonably confident Microsoft will address many of them in the fullness of time. Meanwhile I've enjoyed FSX far more than I expected, even after being impressed by the demos. Best regards, Chris

Thanks, good to hear from another laptop user. A good laptop is the ultimate portable simmming machine!! It goes with me on the road...in the back of the beechjet I fly, and comes out majically in the hotel! Peter

Yes, I was carried away... FSX all the way!! FS9 may never be activated again!

I am having a blast as well .... I will likely upgrade ram from 1G to 2G .....Regards,Vern

I tested today FSX demo on a Apple MAC G5 dual core booting it on XP and it ran very good. I also tried under bad stormy weather and was running around 17Frames could not beleive it, I will be testing the FSX Deluxe when I receive it.
