Strange Building and Tree Textures

Featured Replies

I have been noticing that a lot of buildings and trees have odd shapes and textures.  What do you think this could be caused by?  They look like blocky triangles.  I am also getting a lot of shimmer.

Yup...photogrammetry areas look melted and pointy in many cases. Some areas seem better than others at times. Not really anything you can do about it. I have had photogrammetry turned off for a while as I don't care for the melted look.....

Turning that off would take away any of the photoreal stuff this sim was supposed to have look great, right?

Correct but worth doing for the flight experience. Not only does it run smoother, you don't have all these blocky looking things everywhere. Its a shame and hopefully gets remedied.  Turned it off as well.

You will still have the base photo but the sim will use AI buildings and trees.....and the AI trees look MUCH better....

A while ago, someone posted a comparison of High vs Med vs Low PhotoG  areas for manual cache.

Your pics look like the Med settings. Could your internet speed be prompting the sim to download the MED quality buildings?

I obviously have not flown everywhere in the sim, but I have not seen any melted looking building in the PhotoG areas that I have flown.

Possibly... What should I look for in my settings to make an adjustment?  It's odd because I think i have very good internet speeds.

If i shut off photogrammetry, what does that do to city buildings, etc?

I just have my speed options set to unlimited. There are sites that test your download speeds.

They will just be generic buildings building, but may not have the height etc of the PhotoG buildings. I have yet to turn mine off, but some prefer it that way.

Thanks.  So if my buildings, trees and what not aren't looking right, it sounds like an internet speed problem rather than a graphics settings problem.  Would this effect clouds too?  What internet speed is required to have everything look right?

my d/l internet speed is 906.0 mbps and upload is 819...is that slow for MSFS?

The triangle buildings happen to me when they first get rendered in the distance, and then they form into the right shape when getting closer.
I believe this is an LOD issue. I set the Terrain level of detail to 200 and I believe that helped.

Cache and internet speed have nothing to do with it. LOD may as well as VRAM / RAM specs etc. LOD as stated as well. etc.

Yup...this.  They changed something during the early Alpha phase.  Early alphas had incredible looking PG cities.......err....so I've heard.  LOD was likely tightened up for performance reasons.....

Like these? Whatever they are. On approach today to KMTV, Martinsville. VA, USA.  Honestly, I'd be hanging my head....

I get a lot of that at my Home airport. Turn it off and the sim looks worse. Once in the air it goes away and starts to look normal.

I have fast internet speeds. Hope there is a fix in the future for it because its been brought up several times since the beginning.
