FAA OKs 737-MAX

Interestingly, Transport Canada will require some addition steps before certifying here.  Where is Europe on this right now?

EASA OK`d it last month.

Yep - this is one plane I am gonna avoid like the plague.  Not being a beta test passenger on this.  Old design with new engines.  Gonna pass, but tix will be offered for cheap and people forget and will say I got cheap tix plus the demand for travel is so high now b/c of covid lockdowns.  As soon as virus cases drop, max will get full.

If it ain't Airbus, I ain't flying (get the pun)

Cheap ticket for me to fly on a MAX? Not going to happen. However to be perfectly mercenary about this (i suppose I am that shallow!), if I get offered a free return flight then ..count me in as self-loading ballast with adjustable positioning...

If I get a discount I would for sure go on this plane. If the prices for different types were the same I would take whichever was leaving at a convenient time. On the other hand I wouldn't drive on the freeway with bald tires, because the odds there aren't negligible.

I worry about stuff based on a rational assessment of the probabilities. Not afraid of lightening striking my house or flying on a MAX. Am afraid of heart attacks so my diet is NOT the SAD (standard American diet).

Given that the software has been altered and that crews are fully aware, then there should be no issues. Doesn't stop me wanting to use the stigma as leverage though! Free flights in this case would be fantastic PR..

I saw this quote from Transport Canada:

“The commercial flight restrictions for the operation of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in Canadian airspace remain in effect and will not be lifted until the department is fully satisfied that all its safety concerns have been addressed, and that enhanced flight crew procedures and training are in place in Canada,”

My question is, would airlines from the US or other countries need to adhere to Canada’s additional flight training etc requirements before they can operate a Max into Canadian airspace?  I didn’t think that’s how this typically works and that TC would only have jurisdiction over Canadian airlines but it does seem to read that way?
