Today, for the first time, my client flying at 33.000ft suddenly showed the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED message.

Vram shown in P3Dv5.1 HF1: 6,1 Gb. Using a 24 Gb 3090. My server has the same scenery + addons + extra apps and no issue (also a 3090 ).

I do not believe that my 3090 ran out of memory for more than 2 seconds and therefore caused the message/issue...,

Hi Marcus,

LOL.
I was on my way from Amsterdam to Hamburg (bought Simwings EDDH today) and was flying at 33000 ft along the German coast.Few clouds so no heavy scenery up there.

Perhaps the turbulence from the ac hit Santa in his sleigh...

Bathymetry was off?

Terrain shadows casting and receiving probably on or?

Rob wrote some days ago, this could also be the cause.

In my case turning Bathymetry off did it for me so far.

Santa in Hamburg......well ....  Maybe a little bit windy over there....

Now let me guess.....nothing on your radar screen right? Decent.....decent.......clear of conflict....

Poor Santa..   but at least covid freed up his route.....a little....till Gerard showed up.....probably drinking coffee at 330...

Everything on and maxed out. This is the first time and I have done over 50 flights with v5.1 HF1.

The 3090 has more than enough headroom with its 24 Gb...

That's negligible. 🙂

If you find out what the cause was it will be especially useful because you are different to most not using a virtual cockpit.

As the 3090 cards can become quiet hot, that might be a cause.

My server has liquid cooling and that 3090 card is around 13 degrees Celsius cooler than the one in my left view client. Also the server has 5 fans, one of them 20 cm in the door.

As the client has aircooling , only 3 fans and a glass side, the temps are higher inside the case. So I made the glass side in a way that I can open it from above.

The 30 series cards are great cards but they jump their heat inside the case ...

Yeah I if you got one of these DXGI errors flying under light load at high altitude after a long time then heat buildup is a good idea to chase. All the best tracking it down. The 3090 sucks a lot of power too.

My client only has a 650 W power supply and it is working good. The advised minimum is a 750 W ps, but as the card never has a 100% load and uses not much VRAM this seems to be good enough.

Unable to fly for weeks because of excessive VRAM usage I finally found a solution:

After some try and error I managed to reduce VRAM to a manageable level. But starting vPilot  for VATSIM caused one crash after the other. The result was repeatable. This gave me an idea.

The culprit in my case seemed to be the model matching. The only aircrafts for model matching referred to in vPilot are now the standard aircraft coming with the sim and the AI aircraft from Alpha India Group. I unticked all other aircraft folders like FSLabs or PMDG. Having done so settings in World from Normal to High will not harm stability any more.

There is no need using PMDG or FSLabs liveries for AI aircraft as they are very complex.

I can be absolutely happy now.
