Going dark on Ultrawide Monitor

Featured Replies

First off, let me say how incredible it is to fly on the 49" curved monitor, simply amazing, wow! I never thought I'd experience anything like it in flight simulation, I really am floored.

This past weekend I've purchased AOC AG493UCX and it is run on RTX2070S not overclocked, nothing on my box is overclocked. I am getting loss of video and the screen goes entirely black pretty much every x number of seconds/minutes when in flight, it is random in terms of timing but it does happen all the time. At this point I don't know whether this is an issue with the simulator or the video card. This doesn't happen if I'm in windows or any other application, also doesn't happen on two other computers I have connected to this beast of a monitor. I guess this is worth a Zendesk ticket, just curious whether anyone else is running the sim on the 49" monitor with any issues?

I have a 49" Samsung CRG9 (5120x1440), but I have not seen the issue you are having.

My big annoyance is that the night lights do not scale correctly. If I run the sim on fullscreen the street lights and landing lights are very blurry.

Do you have HDR enabled in Win10 and in MSFS?  If so, try disabling in Win10 which should automatically get disabled in MSFS.

Cheers, Rob.

Yes sir, it is off in both places. I do have it enabled in the monitor settings, not sure if it makes any difference.

What about the monitor frequency? HDMI cable? I found that even though my monitor supports 120 Hz, I cannot run it at anything over 60 Hz. Perhaps even 60 is on the limit and can cause those black-outs. I also found that running it at 30 Hz is quite perfect for the simulation. The frequency can be set in the Nvidia settings.

The cable is a good point. I suggest using the DisplayPort instead of HDMI. I am pretty sure that HDMI 1.4 don't have enough bandwidth for that resolution . Especially if you have set Windows to 10-bit colors and 100Hz update frequency.

I had a similar problem when I got an Asus ROG ultrawide. Replacing the DisplayPort cable with a certified cable fixed it for me. If you get another cable be sure to check the specs and get a certified cable if you can. Far from all DisplayPort cables are actually certified to be compliant with all of the DisplayPort spec, so they might not always support very high resolutions and refresh rates.

Most generic cables are for the first 1080p DPORT  standard and sort of work at 1440/4K  if the cable is short but get very unhappy with longer runs.

It is a bit like 10G ethernet, the old Cat5e cables are not 10G rated but will work OK if it is only a metre or so but your going need Cat6a for things like a 10 m run. Though anyone with half a brain uses sfp fibre patch cables for 10G anyway as the copper stuff overheats.

Going from HDMI to Display Port cable did the trick.

Thanks Rob, you saved the day!. I was getting 3840x1080 on the HDMI I had connected to it and was wondering why everything kind of looked crappy and not as crisp as at the store I bought this monitor at. DP changed the game entirely and now I get the full resolution and everything looks perfect.  I am flying for the rest of the day!
