January 1, 20215 yr Hello I have recently bought a new desktop and purchased P3DV5 - The sim works some of the time but occasionally get an error message why trying to run the sim - Problem with shortcut - The item 'prepar3d.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. I have to repair p3d to run the sim but the error eventually comes back?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
January 1, 20215 yr Rather than repair P3D, have you tried just deleting and recreating the shortcut? I found a recent Windows 10 update affected several shortcuts on my desktop, making them inactive. I had to delete the affected ones and create new ones. At the same time, I found a small touchscreen that I use as a cdu had suddenly lost its touch facility. Disabling and re enabling in device manager had no effect. I had to physically disconnect and reconnect the usb to get it working again. Microsoft updates can be a pain. John B
January 1, 20215 yr Author Its the P3D.exe that disappears not the actual shortcut, I repaired P3D this morning and whilst switching gates at FSDT JFK with PMDG 747 a pmdg error popped up then disappeared before i had chance to read the error then it just CTD. The item 'prepar3d.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly error comes back when I try and restart the sim.
January 1, 20215 yr Looks like something is being corrupted, either from the original P3D download or from add on software. Did you run the checksums after downloading P3D and did they match up. Did P3D work correctly from your shortcut before loading additional software? Did you check at each stage after loading new software. You could try uninstalling addons and check after each uninstall. If problem continues it might be quicker to get a new download of P3D, and make a new clean installation, as administrator, and test operation without addons. Then add one at a time and test after each one. John B
January 1, 20215 yr Author What are the checksums? I think it may have something to do with active sky as I found errors in the event viewer. I will try uninstalling that then line you say work back. Thanks for your input
January 1, 20215 yr Just go into your main P3D install scroll down and try the main P3D exe first before anything else, if it works create a new shortcut. Raymond Fry.

That is unlikely to resolve anything. The OP has already explained that he could run a P3D repair and reinstate the P3D exe. The problem is that something then corrupts it when P3D is running with other addons. John B
January 1, 20215 yr If he can get into the load flight screen just go into options and untick the addons this will eliminate them without uninstalling and do not run weather programs. Raymond Fry.
January 1, 20215 yr Author I cannot get to the flight load screen - its just comes up with the error The item 'prepar3d.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly error comes back when I try and restart the sim.- I though it was initially a short cut error but now i know the exe is removed which is why the short cut doesn't work.

Check your anti virus.. is it removing the exe file? Bert
January 1, 20215 yr Author I deactivated that but it doesn't seem to make any difference, I uninstalled Active sky but came up with a GSK SODE unavailable error when trying to operate the jet ways on FSDT JFK - it was registered etc and still worked on the only other add scenery uk2000 MAN so reinstalled GSX but when a started P3D it came back with the p3d changed or moved error 0 going to uninstall p3d and start again. Its so frustrating as as you know its not cheap.
January 7, 20215 yr Author So I have reformatted the computer and reinstalled everything - the issue came back when registering GSX in the addon manager - once I click register it crashes to desk top then removes the .exe file. I have looked on the FSDT forums but I cannot find anything???
