Too bright, washed out.

Recommended Posts

Anyone found any way to turn down the brightness in Vr? Everything looks really blown out and bloomed. Disabling bloom does nothing. Right now it’s the only negative at all for me with this sim in vr. No other sims have this issue for me.

If you go to the flight simulator sales page on Steam the main revue at the top is by Stars-N-Stripes. He raves how good VR is and how it looks in MSFS. Apparently he is using Reshade to address your issue.

But he says this "don't buy (MSFS) from Microsoft if you want to use Reshade because they lock you out of the executable, had to cancel gamepass and buy the game on steam in order to play it the way I wanted".

Unfortunately, +1.

So far for Microsoft Store buyers, Nvidia freestyle  works in PC mode but not in VR mode.

I've asked about this on a couple of forums, haven't found any answers yet.

Also contacted zendesk, their recommendation was useless, they referred me to update to latest open xr, which i already have.

Others on the msfs forum have stated the same and have even requested a tool for adjusting post processing parameters.

I would think this should be readily possible, they have some of these parameters in the VR cfg. file already.

If I remember correctly, some time ago, I believe Flyinside had an in game menu to adjust brightness in their app..

2D looks pretty washed out as well but turning off post processing in the 2d section of user.cfg seems to do nothing so would be surprised (but happy) if changes work in the 3D section.

I agree!

I'm missing some contrast, gamma or brightness setting. I bought an app for xplane11 to adjust these settings and it makes a world of a difference. Flyinside has these settings built in and I have all their sliders maxed out.

Let's hope microsoft pays some attention to this.

Flying in the evening or early morning helps a lot so that's what I do constantly.

Cheers.

Yeah... no real change noticed.
But thanks for the suggestion Rob.

nVidia Freestyle also not working with Steam version of the sim. Asobo should at least provide a slider for gamma control.

I can't speak for VR but I love how bright the lighting is in 2D. Just like real life. I hope they don't remove that.

It's not really the "brightness" that defines the problem (the sun can be quite bright, after all), but the simulation of brightness as overexposure (incurring unrecoverable loss of detail)--which comes across feeling more like an artificial photographic effect (in the same camp as flare effects) than a natural one.  Also, any sane pilot will be wearing sunglasses when flying into the sun, so short of providing us with virtual sunglasses, realism demands that the sim should provide us with the ability to see through sun glare effects to at least the same fidelity that a pilot wearing sunglasses would need to have in order not to require IFR certification to fly in particular directions on sunlit days.

Well said Gildahl,
Exactly how I'd describe my experience.

Perhaps Asobo should take a cue from X-Plane and add the user view option for sunglasses. :-)
