January 3, 20215 yr Good convo going in in this thread. Honestly I'm fine reading a constructive complaint thread. .. but when the pitchforks and torches come out I hit back and try a different thread . I had to skip avsim completely for most of the end of aug and Sept. As I couldn't get through any threads. Things have settled down a lot though Edited January 3, 20215 yr by Wewk584 [XP11 BETA/FS2020 BETA] [Pilotedge BETA/Vatsim BETA]

No-one has ever done that in a AAA release, never, and even in budget game likely never happened. IT was a matter of changing out a few files, they left it broken for months. The new normal of what, that is not the new normal, it was not a bug, it was bad files. Never heard of a game sending bad files 3x and leaving it that way for months. Maybe there is a couple other examples, but it's definitely not the new norm. Cyberpunk2077 disagrees Titles like this are not sitting on one PC with only the changes updating.. it is (usually) compiled from scratch every time and the assets (files) are rebuilt everytime.. then they 'diff' out the changes and push only those during the update.. (be that changed / delete or added files)... im not saying its OK the issue happened or that its taking time to fix but that would apply to the entire list of items they are working on. Its still a 'bug' Edited January 3, 20215 yr by Wewk584 [XP11 BETA/FS2020 BETA] [Pilotedge BETA/Vatsim BETA]
January 3, 20215 yr Yurei and Bobcats comments are 100% spot on. Lots of people make various assumptions about others when as a matter of fact we are total strangers. I remember when these updates started and i started to Vent my frustration at Asobo's QA. There was a few quite abrasive responses. Some of them were bordering on abusive and i blocked them and they are still blocked and apparently haven't toned it down based on their comments on this thread. However there was this one forum member that even though we didn't see eye to eye he wasnt always just trying to give a rude response. He really tried to explain the reasons why the QA may be the way it was and he was passionate about it. After a few exchanges over time I came to understand his full experience and perspective and i 100% can respect and appreciate that. I also remember someone trying to tell me oh its only 70 dollars.. why all the fuss? No buddy try three thousand dollars at present and more to be invested. the actual game may be 70 bucks but don't assume that there aren't other factors required to get this thing up and running to the users satisfaction. And also don't assume the time and resources put in to get to the point where the last thing left is the final 70bucks to buy the software license. Time and money isn't easy to come by for some. On the other hand for my personal experience. After the last update I am now enjoying the sim and i stated that on the forums. I primarily fly airliners and the sim now can get the aircraft i want to use from point a to b in a somewhat realistic and repetitive fashion. Is it PMDG?... no I never expected nor am i ready for that (my last sim was FS2004). I haven't even downloaded the FBW mod. My job right now is to learn to master the basics and the FMC/MCDU. and the sim is now allowing me to do this. As a matter of fact i did my first fully manually entered flightplan into the MCDU flight last night and the aircraft fully executed the flight from KFLL to KATL. Even managed to change the runways on the fly. The feeling of satisfaction was great. On the Graphics front the Tree mod restored the LOD that i missed when this game was just released and is a godsend. Water masks seem to be gradually returning and hopefully they will work on the pixellation with clouds. I never expected perfection. I don't think any realistic person does but every person has their own set of priorities and expectations with timelines. If when the game was released your initial priorities were met you were probably happy. Its after those updates broke one of your priorities is when you see people starting to vent and that's completely understandable. So for the people who think the game can do no wrong.. great .. keep on flying.. but please respect the fact that your priorities and expectations may be different from the person venting. ESPECIALLY if an update breaks one of the things that makes that person enjoy the sim. Hopefully the next update will fix the issues that prevents whomever from not enjoying the sim at the moment. After this last update I now think that the developer is at least trying to get the platform to the point where most will find it acceptable in order to build from there. Its still going to be a bumpy endeavor because we are all different but the common thread is that we have all invested in this platform. Safe flights. I want to do the Alps crossing with it, but I need to find time to be able to fly in a straight line for more than 20' first. 😄 Ok a bit of research reveals the Bleriot used in the tragic Chavez Alps flight had a Gnome Omega engine: Quote The propeller engine of the Bleriot XI was a 7 – cylinder rotary Gnome Omega delivering 50 HP, lubricated with castor oil and which tank was next to it. The cooling of the engine was achieved through impact air. This engine activated a two blade propeller, which produced traction, rotating at a rate o 200 to 1 250 revolutions, which were registered in the tachometer. In order to reduce the possibility of ice formation in altitude flights, the engine oil conducts were covered with wrappings made up of asbestos and wool, designed by Jorge Chavez. http://www.jorgechavezdartnell.com/english/en_travesia_bleriotxi.html It is likely the Anzani version would not get enough altitude even following the mountain passes that Chavez used.

You're probably right that the Anzani would never get high enough. The channel crossing was done in the Anzani, though, I think?

The channel crossing was done in the Anzani, though, I think? Yep a semi-radial W configuration Anzani, looks a bit like a V twin with a third cylinder stuck in the middle. They later changed to using a Y configuration true radial but the channel flight was the W engine. There were thousands of these Bleriot XI sold back in the day and literally dozens of different engines used.

The first flight of the Bleriot 11 (50 HP engine) in the Alps was in September 1910 from Ried-Brig in the Swiss Valais to Milano in Italy, through the Simplon Pass. The Franco-Peruvian pilot, Jorge Chavez, crashed and died before reaching the destination, in Domodossola Italy when his plane was about to land, structural failure of the wings at 20 m of altitude. The Lima Peru International airport and a street in Paris bear his name. EDIT oops I see that Glenn reported the Chavez story when I was writing my post ! January 5, 20215 yr This is turning into a very constructive and positive thread. I want to add some examples taken from other non essential fields of the human experience, in which it is very easy for discussions to go south: OSX vs Windows vs Linux Intel vs AMD NVidia vs AMD Playstation vs Xbox Vinyl vs CD McIntosh vs rest of the world (hifi) Ferrari vs Porsche Sailboat vs Motorboat Iphone vs rest of the world It's a matter of choices, and choices are subjective, as someone correctly pointed out. So no need to think that those who make a different choice are stupid. They may just have different priorities. Bye all A.

Exactamundo on point.... Cannot say it better, I have so much time and money invested into Flight Sims, and I don't even have a cockpit build (but I have invested more money and time than most people that do cockpit builds). I would love to do the cockpit build but then I can never decide where to store the thing when I'm done, and my SIM room = Home theater room, I'm not rich and don't have 7 bedroom house, lol... Point is, some of us have so much invested that when we see these issues, it literally feels like, please don't make me go back to ugly graphics in Xplane... I hope they do keep improving Xplane though, to make it fun again, MSFS ruined Xplane for me (kind of, sort of, temporarily at least). AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram
