January 6, 20215 yr Hi, I don't recall having seen this linked here on AVSIM, but there is a series of official flying lessons by Community Manager Jayne and Instructor Forder: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/official-flying-lessons-c152/335663 (Official Forum) https://www.twitch.tv/msfsofficial (Twitch) There are two videos so far (series to be continued) plus a host of add-on material for download. This may be redundant for the old-timers but it's certainly welcome by the new pilots entering our hobby using MSFS. Taken seriously, it also shows that MSFS provides much more than just "flying around and watching landscape". January 6, 20215 yr As much word not allowed as we give MSFS, it is also good to see them interact with the community and try to actually help people learn. January 6, 20215 yr Jayne is doing an admirable job at connecting with the community by organising guided tours and helping ease new players into the simulator with those streamed lessons. There was also another series of flight lessons before this one with the Cessna 152, but sadly it seems that the VODs are not available on Twitch anymore. Hopefully they will consider uploading these on YouTube to ensure they stay up.
January 6, 20215 yr There's a guy on YouTube - Captain Joe - who is an excellent instructor. He has two really good videos that cover flying the 152 from a cold start. He does it using his own highly-detailed check lists, which you can download (the ones in the sim are pretty pitiful). They took me back to the day when a C-150 could be rented for $7.50 an hour, WET - to the time when I started my first lessons. Coming across Captain Joe kinda coincided with my recent efforts to distract myself from 2020's lackings or disappointments, by immersing myself in small challenges or distractions, like getting into a small Cessna again, and seeing how much I could remember about operating one (not much!). I'm still trying to create a way to plot out and fly a VFR cross country in a small bird, using pilotage and landmarks, with only what's available in the sim (without much success). My point is that even if you are disappointed in 2020 in it's present state - for whatever reasons - and you find yourself unable to implement the grand visions that were in your mind when you purchased it - it still offers opportunities for fun and entertainment if you seek out smaller challenges while you wait for the whole package to evolve. Since I am old, out of practice, and retired from RW flying, just trying to remember how to operate a simple 152 has eaten up a couple of very engaging hours. There are a bizillion small challenges like this available to entertain yourself with in 2020. You just have to be creative and seek them out. I Intel [email protected] GHZ. 32 GB RTX 4070 Ti OC
January 6, 20215 yr Author Captain Joe (supposedly it's the one) has been one of the main forum moderators of MSFS early in the MSFS alpha and set up the Discord channel later. He's been really helpful during alpha until Jayne took over part of the work as a community manager. I'll search for his videos. January 6, 20215 yr It’s funny to see how the community manager Jayne knows so little of how the C152 works. Not a criticisms, I like the two videos but still a bit puzzling. Great job from Forder! Oh and he got a CTD in the middle of a session 😄 Edited January 6, 20215 yr by peroni

I was wondering that, too, but they may have selected someone being able to understand beginner's problems instead of a "study-level pilot" on his high horse. BTW, I think she's not only in charge of MSFS but other games (not simulations), too. Community managers are sort of like social media coordinators or consultants. They don't necessarily need to have an in depth knowledge of the product to be effective believe it or not. Forder is interesting to watch. For not being a flight instructor, he does a pretty good job for the most part. Like he says, there is no certification needed to teach simulated flight 😉 Chris
January 7, 20215 yr Captain Joe appears to be a real airline pilot. And by 2020 I meant MSFS, not the year! Intel [email protected] GHZ. 32 GB RTX 4070 Ti OC
