It was a locked needle. Great work, anyway keep up your good work. Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).
February 6, 20215 yr Kinetic Assistant 0.8 is out! Main changes - UI improvements, some bugs fixed and missing features added, and most important - thermals import from thermal.kk7.ch/ available now. No need to mess with CSV files. Just check their map for coverage, find suitable location, start the flight in MSFS and press the KK7 button on Thermals tab. To see thermals in LNM - you can export them as CSV and load by Userpoints > import section. transparency option partially working Always on top feature fixed Winch Initial acceleration field added Custom AI tow plane name support (most aircraft will not take off without taxiing; names list can be found in Developer menu → Aircraft Selector) Automatic thermals data load from thermal.kk7.ch service (experimental! coverage is limited, check their website to choose supported location) Thermals height field, for thermal.kk7.ch data or CSV thermals with 0 elevation set; should match altitude of lower clouds layer in the game (in feet) Thermal Clear button added, as now several sources can be used same time – multiple CSVs made in LittleNavMap and thermal.kk7.ch server data Thermal debug data moved into bottom window Winch/Tow rope random failures option (chances still depend on tension, Training Mode is like use damaged rope that will fail during next launch) AI tow plane altitude limit depend on launching position altitude (fix for mounting area) Spoiler
February 7, 20215 yr Alex, I assume i need the thermal.kk7.ch open in my browser whilst flying? Is that how it works, Or do i create a hotspot and download it..! Edit Nm just read your FB post... Awesome stuff. Edited February 7, 20215 yr by RW1

Edit Nm just read your FB post... Awesome stuff. No, just click the button after you have started flight in selected location. Map is important for the first lookup - just to understand where hotspots available.
February 9, 20215 yr Apart from MSFS’s amazing graphics, how does this compare to Condor Soaring? 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

No comparison yet until we have native MSFS gliders with complete avionics and working weather/thermals. But suffice it is visually way better as you mentioned. My sole opinion. But suffice it is visually way better as you mentioned. My sole opinion. Ah, thanks. I kind of suspected as much. I watched an MSFS 2020 gliding video on YouTube the other day and was left scratching my head. The guy was in ridge lift, then crossed the valley to the opposite side and was, once again, in ridge lift without having to get across the opposite ridge first. In other words, the wind appeared to be blowing East and West at the same time. Unless, of course, MSFS is modelling anabatic winds, which would be impressive. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

I expect soaring and gliding will mature nicely in the future, Right now i find it more of a gimmick than simulated, Even with the fantastic work the community has completed to even get us to this point is amazing, Kinetic is providing a simulated thermal but it is not dynamic, I tried ridge lift but it feels like overpowered manual wind injected into the sim rather than lift and sink. It's still fun though.
February 10, 20215 yr Thanks. I’ll watch it develop with much interest. It really does look good. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

February 11, 20215 yr It compares very feebly to any Condor / Silentwings, or even X-Plane glider. I am amazed by the experience of being there, visually, when flying around my usual base of operations IRL ( LPMN ), but it all vanishes when I try to fly it as a real glider. For the first time I really understood why so many were complaining about an almost total lack of adverse yaw effect. Heck, in the Discus I really should be able to feel it, at it simply isn't there anywhere plausibly. The author of this excellent visual model is not to blame though. I looked into the flight_model.cfg, and all was plausibly set. Problem is MFS flight dynamics still leave a LOT to be desired regarding some real basic aspects. Airbrake effects are very poorly modelled too, with excessive pitching moment and other aerodynamic quirks. Overall, it scared me away from using it, until ASOBO does a plausible update to their FDM... I really don't know how detailed ASOBO's MFS weather engine really is. They speak a lot about it's Wow's on the presentations, show those interesting windflow patterns but there is still a lot to know about, starting with SDK access to weather variables. For soaring simulation, IMO, Condorsoaring is still the way to go. BTW: A TMG now in MFS too 🙂 Diamond HK36TC Super Dimona | Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 - YouTube Edited February 11, 20215 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 20, 20215 yr We have prepared the next gliding competition for you - Race 125 LFNJ. Location - South-East France, LFTM - LFNJ. Task length - 125km, duration - about a hour. Start gate open from today until 2021-02-22 12:00:00 UTC. Variable S-E wind will help you to stay in the air by following east and south side hills, but also strong thermals can be found near to each turn point to you out. Please notice that thermals leaning implemented in current ALBATROSS version (btw don't forget to get update or results will be not counted), so you will experience a small shift of the thermals to the west direction. Thermals drifting is disabled during competition to ensure that all players will have thermals at the same spots. Our last weekend task Race 350 EDKG available again, it is the hard one so be sure you have enough time and patient to finish it. We are still in testing stage of ALBATROSS development process so feel free to report about any issues you will find, or wishes you can have. No glider class limits at this time, use anything you like, just don't forget to kill the engine. Good luck!
March 5, 20215 yr We are ready for the new gliding competition - Race 250 LSZE! 250 kilometers long task in Swiss Alps a good challenge for the brave glider pilots. 20 knot S-E wind, 25 Celsius degrees ground level temperature and 9 000ft clouds will help you to stay airborne for a long time. Please update ALBATROSS to the latest version as we are applying changes continuously. In the new version “nav screen” was introduced in its early form, not very fancy but still useful for points rounding or thermals searching. Edited March 5, 20215 yr by thealx
June 24, 20214 yr Really looking forward to when ASOBO releases a glider DLC. If they implement thermals according to ground textures, it'd be great. The graphics of this sim are really perfect to enjoy gliding. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved
