January 23, 20215 yr So discard my rig and my settings. If I select VSYNC ON and limit the frames to 60, the sim holds up pretty good to that value giving me a "green" FPS counter in DEV mode. My video card works hard but it manages it. I can look around the cockpit and everything is mostly butter smooth. Selecting a lower FPS limit e.g. 30, the sim is clearly not smooth and the FPS counter is mostly red / yellow showing values of 24-28 seldom jumping to 30. My video card relaxes drinking coffee with this setting. I had expected that if my rig is able to hold 60FPS, it would hold 30 without sweating. January 23, 20215 yr I woudn't keep vsync on, it feels like it's all bugged to me. But yes, your reasoning is right. If you can keep 60 fps, so should you at 30. Edited January 23, 20215 yr by Pastaiolo Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."
January 23, 20215 yr Basically, without getting technical, what is happening, is your computer is firing loads of data at the GPU, but in picking a lower frame rate, your computer is essentially going 'woah!' and then trying to slow things down. So it has to start shoving things to the side, and in doing that, it is firing data backwards and forwards all over the shop between various bits of hardware. This is sort of a bit like those comedy scenes in movies and TVs where someone is operating a machine churning out stuff and they try to stop it or pick something up off the production line and then slapstick comedy ensues as stuff starts piling up. January 23, 20215 yr As Pastaiolo has said, the internal setting seems bugged. Vsync on at 30 fps gave me about half of that on mine, and very stuttery. I would set vsync to off inside the sim, and use Riva Tuner SS to lock at 30 instead. Even with a 3070, if your settings are mainly high / ultra and you are running a lot of pixels or high scaling factor, it will struggle to hold 60 fps, but a solid 30 fps would be easily within its reach. I only have a 1080Ti, but with sensible high / ultra settings, and at 4k 75% (75% set inside the user config file as it is not possible on the slider) I am getting a very smooth and solid 30 fps with Riva tuner set at 30 fps. By the way, I have all settings to off or application controlled in the Nvidia control panel, as these can clash with the sim settings as well. I just set SS x6 and AF x16 in sim now. January 23, 20215 yr I had similar issues aswell. My current settings are: Monitor refresh rate set to 30Hz ingame Vsync set to on and FPS limit to 60FPS. (as mentioned above setting it to 30FPS might somehow cut the FPS to 15 for some reason) and all my Nvidia Control Panel settings are set to default. Of course experience may vary but for me (and on my rig) the sim has never been smoother. You have to get used to the 30Hz refresh rate while taxiing but that happened fast. :) Intel i9-13900K | Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master | RTX4090 | 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 | Be quiet! It didn't half my FPS but it was in the 20's. @Chock The PC (or MSFS) should be able to manage how much data is sent.... I think that the "little BUGGed" VSYNC is what makes more sense to me. Theoretically yes it should be able to do okay, but unless everything is perfectly balanced (bottleneck-wise), something has to give, and it is essentially impossible for something to be perfectly balanced for a number of different throughput settings, by definition, it has to be better at one than it is at another. AOC Q27G2WG4 refresh rate is 48hz to 144hz Firstly --- The minimum refresh rate of that monitor is 48 hz that will cause serious issues at 30 FPS unless you are running gsync/freesync . Fortunately the specs state the AOC Q27G2WG4 is Freesync Premium meaning it has support for low framerate compensation (LFC) so you can run gsync or freesync without a problem. Freesync/Gsync will not necessarily solve your current issues but definitely enable whichever your GPU supports regardless. Secondly --- does the in game FPS meter show GPU limited or CPU ?? January 24, 20215 yr Do not know why in game vsync if set to 30 FPS only gives 15 FPS, that is a question for Asobo to answer, but if you set in game to 60 FPS, you will get a solid 30 FPS on any external FPS limiter, and based on your Render Scale, which works for me at 100, you will see a big difference in performance. Now the native resolution of your monitor is probably the next most important thing to consider. I have a 4k x 27" monitor that has a HDMI 2.1 -30 hz input, and also a 60hz input. There is also a Display Port input that is not the latest tech but based on my trials, the 30hz input with 60 fps in game vsync setting allows me to run in the ultra mode with very smooth performance aside from the usual stutters for loading airports and big cities. Maybe DX12 will cure some of this. The native refresh rate and the resolution of your monitor are critical to setting up your sim settings and that is based on my experience. Skip
