It could well be certain region(s) of that country each time or they will wait till 2029 when they have enough data and boom, a 50GB update that may break everything. I also doubt China would give them any data.

Yup, probably not since in addition to helping make your sat nav a phone app help you get to the nearest petrol station and make MSFS look pretty, that data is also useful for the optical nav systems of these things: Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

Google data for this region is only 2 to 4 years old, compared to Bing 3D maps typically 7 to 15 years out of date.... So sufficient data is there now to update Asia should some sort of share arrangement be made... Edited January 30, 20215 yr by ray hughes

As a matter of fact, Google Earth has been updating satellite image of China almost yearly, which is surprising. The images are surprisingly high quality and crisp, which is somewhat difficult given how frequently smog happened (mostly from fall to spring) in China. I picked a place in the middle of China I don't think anyone is familiar with 04/2020 - probably some pollution 05/2019 - best quality so far 02/2018 12/2017 Edited January 30, 20215 yr by MegaRiceBall add 1 more pic
January 30, 20215 yr The developers mentioned in their recent Q&A that the next update will be in Europe, covering multiple countries. That gives us hope that we'll see some regional developments in the future:-)

IIRC the Height data for the USA came from US Government mapping agencies. I guess there could be high quality third party data out there. Edited January 30, 20215 yr by Tuskin38
