Crossing the English Channel in a Short Sunderland

Featured Replies

This freeware model is a Short Sunderland Mk IIIA, which was developed by “Shessi” (sorry, I don’t know his real name) for CFS2 and FS2004 and published on SOH. I love these big old birds, so I converted her to MSFS.

We start in Southampton. She swims alright, but doesn’t like to move in the water.

So I cheated a bit and slewed her up into the air.

As she didn’t have a suitable VC, I installed again the one from the Flight Replicas’ DC 4

Slowly lumbering along towards the open sea. Plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.

Crossing the channel was a breeze in this behemoth of a seaplane. We have reached Alderney

And here we are at our final destination: Jersey. Now it’s time to find a suitable place to land, which shouldn’t be a big deal, I guess

Bernd, it's very simple.

Cut a hole in the floor.

Shove your feet , flipper clad, through the hole.

Paddle like hell & with your spare hand pump the water out.

Lift off!

Voila!

Stunning shots, BTW. & it must be the only Shorts in the World with a DC-4 VC!

Next you'll be stuffing the Concord VC into a Tiger Moth!😃

Very nice!

All my FSX/P3D repaints are here on Avsim, for my MSFS repaints, go to FS.2

Lovely pictures and great narrative...!!

[I'm glad you're getting to travel in it here (virtually) though you really wanted to but could not take the world tour in the real thing....🙂...as I recall...]

That is one cool looking beast of an aircraft!
