February 2, 20215 yr Did anyone noticed this with P3D V5.1HF1, Truesky EA Mode on? I´ve made some screenshots from my EHAM Departure in East direction, above Amsterdam and further on. It seems like TrueSky clouds are capable of reflecting light, illumination from city-/moonlight. On these pictures you can see clearly that the downside of the clouds are lighten up. I´m not sure this is City light illuminating the cloud downside or Moonlight, shining on ground (through clouds - could still be a fault I know) and than ground bounces the light up in direction of the clouds But this illustrates only that Truesky clouds are capable off reflecting light (regardless the light source) which I think is great! Let´s hope LM enhances truesky and it´s capabilities how to "trace" light from sun, moon and further light sources as landing lights, strobes and city lighting. This would be great to see some enhancements here (in addition to more enhanced cloud presentation generally). Note that the screenshots where made in windowed mode with my VR turned on, which has negative impact on the visuals at a 2d screen! Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
February 2, 20215 yr Found it quite hard to see what you mean with those shots on a phone screen. I do t have access to my sim right now but I'll have a look when I next can.. Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS

Be patience Kevin! 😉 Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
February 2, 20215 yr I've noticed that effect too. I'm not sure if it's caused by moonlight, which is also simulated by trueSKY, or cities. Either case, it looks nice. PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM. Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.
February 2, 20215 yr I think that True Sky implementation will get better and better as V5 version proceed! Can't wait to see the next V5 version!

Marcus I completely agree, other than some weird issues like orange clouds at sunset/sunrise (which I believe is caused because the current implementation doesn't take the Earth's shadow into account) they look really nice, especially the sky and haze is really natural. It even kind of made me switch to P3D from X-Plane. Edited February 2, 20215 yr by BiologicalNanobot PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM. Because at dawn and dusk the opposite side of the sun is lighten up as well, even at times where the earth is between the sun and opposite side. You get yellow/orange sky colors 360 degrees instead of only at the side of where the sun comes up or goes down. That´s something which is really well done in MSFS. Did you also noticed the "low frequently shadow rendering"? It is almost only 2x a second. When clouds come in or fade away you see the shadows coming a bit later in or fade away "quadratic wise". Also a bit odd. There are a few more glitches which should be taken care off. Marcus Regards, Marcus P.

Even though it is rather easier to take Earth's shadow into account on clouds, it's rather tricky to do the same when it comes to sky. While cloud lighting can be approximated by only taking single scattering into account, multiple scattering has a noticeable effect on sunset/sunrise sky. With single scattering if Earth's shadow was taken into account, the shadowed part would be pitch black. In order to simulate these phenomena (including twilight) properly, multiple scattering needs to be taken into account, which is rather computationally heavy and a bit harder to implement. It's really cool that Asobo managed to take multiple scattering into account with very little performance impact. People at Asobo are really skilled at shader-based rendering. 15 minutes ago, mpo910 said: Did you also noticed the "low frequently shadow rendering"? It is almost only 2x a second. February 3, 20215 yr This cloud/moonlight effect seems to shift a little based on viewpoint, but it's certainly headed in the right direction. February 3, 20215 yr This looks like the moonlighti shining on the clouds. I´ve never bin there......but thanks for the tip. Will try after "lockdown". Now I have to ask Gerard what he changed to make the clouds more "bumpy" 😉 (just a small sentence to be on topic again;-)) Regards, Marcus P.

What values did you change to have more "bumps" at cloud surfaces? Would you mind parsing me your volumetriccloud.cfg.........I will surely try them (and parse them to the next "instance" to learn from you 😉 -> LM) Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
February 3, 20215 yr Hi Marcus, Still working on it. When I am satisfied I will post it.
