Hi,

After some months I got the most difficult component to get, the gpu. It is Asus ROG Strix RTX 3090 OC 24GB. Now, I would like to get another round of opinions to complete my build:

1. i9-10900K or Ryzen 9 5900? (the same endless discussion...😊) I think Ryzen 5950X is too expensive...

2. AIO or custom loop? Is the last one useful to get temperatures as low as possible? Something like this but not so expensive... https://www.corsair.com/pt/pt/Categorias/Produtos/CORSAIR-iCUE/Resfriamento-personalizado/XH-Custom-Cooling-Kits/p/CX-9070005-WW. Suggestions are welcome.

3. Which type motherboard? Z490 or X570? I am not sure if one can use Z590 with an Intel 10th generation cpu, but maybe it is not necesary.

3a. For both types and after a lot of reviews I have 3 to consider: Asus Rog Strix Z490 E Gaming (or the same model for X570); Asus Rog Maximus XII Hero Wifi Z490 (or Asus ROG Crossair VIII Hero X570); and MSI MEG ACE Z490 (or the same model for X570). Suggestions are welcome.

4. For two M.2, one for OS and the other for MSFS : I read somewhere that the Samsung 980 PRO uses PCIe 4.0 but maybe intel motherboards do not have this feature. Is it true? Or maybe I stay with a Samsung 970 EVO for example?

5. RAM: 3600 CL16 or 3200 CL14, both 2 x 16 GB - Which one is better for OC (if necessary) and faster?

6. Case: I liked very much Lian Li O11 Dynamic. I don't know if it is a good one to keep temperatures down. Anything to consider with this case? Suggestions are welcome.

Do you have the same study in 2K and 4K resolutions if there is a real difference? And since I have NVidia card it matches better with Intel processor or it doesn't matter at all?

You are over thinking this... IMHO.

There is no "perfect" system, and if there is, it will be no longer a year from now..

Having said that, there are "perfectly good" systems that will fly MSFS nicely.

You need to decide if you want something good and and mainstream, that will give you many hours of flying pleasure, or something that looks great on graphs and gives you "bragging rights"..

As an example, either one of the two RAM options will perform just fine for MSFS.. and please, no RAM OC beyond the XMP settings..

The safe bet is to go with Intel and start with a 1080p (or 2k) screen, without overclock.  That gives you a great performing system, and few headaches.. Maybe your 3090 GPU will feel underused, but that is not a bad thing in MSFS..  Gives you room for weather, clouds, you name it..

The other route is to keep fiddling with the "latest fad" and spend your time tweaking and posting in the hardware forum..  That can be fun too, but is very different from flying

I don't have. Most CPU benchmarks are done at 1080p (or less) only.

Great performance with all "thousand" addons like ORBX, FlyTampa, PMDG or Aerosoft in full settings which means more than 30 fps?

It's interesting to have all the suggestions because it seems that we already had the same discussions ten years ago with all the other sims. 😉

You are correct.. the discussion has not changed.. you can overload any system.

You could then, you can now..

So what are you after?

Search benchmarks here by RAM module name/CL

Just found on my youtube history: DDR4 3200 x DDR4 3600 (on AMD )

3600 is for sure faster, but I was comparing 2 different latencies as well: Low latency / low speed versus high latency / high speed.

Also, you might want to consider 64 GB of Ram.

Win 11 pro 64Bit, X670 AORUS ELITE AX, Ryzen 7 7800x3d, RTX 4080, 64Gig G-Skill 6000 DDR 5, Samsung 990 pro 2TB NVME.

Points to note:

3600MHz gives only ~1% more FPS than 3200MHz on games, as shown on previous video.

CL14 will get ~1% more FPS (at most) than CL16 on games at the same clock:

But I would like to analyze both things together - 3200 CL14 and 3600 CL16 - and not latency or speed isolated. And which one is better for little OC?

if you go for AMD 4 X 8GB 32GB would be ok. with 3200mhz and fabric synced you run 1600mhz on the fabric, 1800mhz fabric is faster then 1600mhz and mes woul be 3600mhz.

the YT video say nada not sure he nows what he doing,

run a 3090 at less then 4K  for example 1440p a 3080 is enough

as Bert say you can bottleneck evry system, MSFS in 4K you have the bottleneck in the GPU

i have a couple of systems up and tested in MSFS , amd 3700x 5950x , Intel 9900K  in 4k very small differnce.

the gpu there we see the difference tested 1080ti,2080t and 3090.

my bragging specs : AMD 5950X PBO boost 5.1ghz fabric 1900mhz mems 4 x 8gb 32gb 3800mhz C14( 14-15-15-34) xmp 1.5v have a set 4 x16gb 64gb 3200 c14 dual rank dont like them the fabric at 1600mhz very hard to run them at 3600mhz and fabric set at 1800mhz.

GPU Galax HOF OCLab editon water cooled  2150mhz and mems 1300

run MSFS locked 30hz , when dial the settings i unlock the fps put on EGLC London  set the weater to storm check gpu usage want 31-32fps then test flight around London , lock 30fps then check gpu usage is 97-98%

then turn on clear sky the gpu usage drop to 70-75% , then start to fly no problem at all i have headroom the gpu usage is 50-95% most of the time.
