Missing Airfields

Featured Replies

It never ceases to amaze me how many places are missing from MSFS, especially ones that were in FSX.  Area51, Eareckson, Narsarsuaq, Thule, and a ton more.

How many of those "missing" were in add-on scenery, because msfs2020 has approx 13,000 more airports in it than FSX default, and how many of those "missing" no longer exist such a Meigs field so wouldn't be picked up on current satelite imagery?

PS  in case you are still looking :-

Area 51 exists in MSFS2020 labelled as KXTA.  I flew in there last week and had a chat with the Aliens 🙂 .

Eareckson is PASY

Narsarsuaq is BGBW

Thule is BGTL

All are available in my MSFS2020 as departure and arrival locations.

Then you have added them.  I imported Eareckson from FSX, so it's just the runway and taxiways, none of the others are their.  And they were all default in FSX.

Didn't they remove a few airports from FS9 to FSX? I am not sure but I thought that Kai Tak airport was removed? Maybe I am wrong?

I have added nothing, and I am not the only one that has area 51...   https://screenrant.com/find-area-51-microsoft-flight-simulator/

My new PC is in the shop for repair. I am forced to go back too old PC and P3 D. I can tell you how many flight plans I had to redo because airports in P3D were missing.

Do you have Navigraph? It adds those missing airports, but just their runways.

Area 51 is in the base sim, it's using the real ICAO code now, KXTA, instead of the fake one FSX used which was AR51 IIRC.

The other ones you mention are missing because of the poor Bing imagery in those regions.

Well they're there but they're not there. Little NavMap shows they were "installed" by the Navigraph MSFS beta and live in the Community folder. So I do think they're missing from the default airport BGLs.

The military field (that might have a GA part) are not included because they are blurred.

Asobo said that they will see what the can do about it.

In some countries yes, but the ones he mentioned here just have poor imagery in Bing because of where they are in the world I assume, MS didn't bother buying/taking any high quality imagery for those areas. None of them are censored.

None of the air bases that I've found in the continental US, Alaska and Canada are censored on Bing, including Area 51.

A few things I've noticed in common with missing airports is that there's either no high quality imagery in the area for them, they're censored in Bing maps or the satellite Imagery might be older than the airports existence.

Now that doesn't cover every missing airport in the sim, there are some missing where there's great imagery, not sure what's up with those.
