Tip to make Asobo Update Process Work

Featured Replies

I have been frustrated so many times when big updates from Asobo don’t work for whatever reason.  In addition to making a copy of the Community folder and then deleting contents from that folder, I turn off my virus checker and firewall.  Then after installing the update, I just have to remember immediately restart my computer, and then turn the virus checker and firewall back on.

So far, this has worked every time.

Feel free to correct me if this isn’t a safe procedure, but at least has worked today and in the past.

Cheers!

I mean, you don't have to go that far, just rename the folder lol. After the update delete the newel created one, and rename the old one back.

You could just use the addon linker to temporarily clear your community folder, and put it back again with just another click.....

My process is this and I've never had a problem. Open the Microsoft Store and click to check for updates. After it downloads the update I open MSFS and have it run it's update - done.

I never touch my community folder and mind you the last time I checked it was about 179GB worth. You only need to make a backup of your community folder in case something goes wrong and it gets cleared or if you do have a problem after the update you should try running the sim with an empty community folder as to rule out any third party conflicts, thus the reason for the backup. But you don't need to empty it for each update, just make a backup somewhere and go about your business.

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

Not to worry... many never touched their Community folder other than to update those addons that changed after SU4, which you can do after running the update.
