Another update for BlackBox Britten Norman BN2 Islander

Featured Replies

The Saturday update left the nav1 gauge not working properly on ILS approach, the glide slope was not showing and the heading was way off. This has been fixed with 30.05.2021 update. 😀

Another update on this.  A superb one.

For people who have this aircraft, listen to the sounds inside and out after the update.  The tone transitions on the prop are now amazing, I was blown away, plus they implemented the WWise as promised.

Whatever happened before with the Airbus people go on about, I really respect Black Box  for the continual improvements to this plane, and the Bird Dog.

  • ADDED - WWISE fully interactive 3d Sound set
  • ADDED - Landing gear effects, wet, snow, dust, etc
  • ADDED - Environment Occlusion for cabin
  • ADDED - Vieques Air Link Livery
  • TWEAKED - Engine performance
  • TWEAKED - Throttle response
  • TWEAKED - CHT
  • TWEAKED - EGT

Another small update is due shortly for SU5 issues - Nav2 issues etc.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Thanks for the HU.  With the sound improvements I think it’s finally time for me to pick this one up.

Everything is subjective, but I really like it.

It just has that X factor when you fly it in the sim.  It handles nicely, a great view from the cockpit, you can drop the freeware Garmin 750 in if you want, and now the enhanced sounds just put the cherry on top.

If it has any downsides, maybe some of the polys and textures are a bit low res close up, but the rest makes up for this.

Please come and feedback what you think about the engine sounds if you buy it, in case I am going over the top a little. 😀

That's the only thing holding me off getting this. Hopefully they'll get around to polishing the cockpit a bit soon.

Yes, the cockpit and the prop spinners need a bit of work, so hopefully they will give it a go, especially as you see the left hand spinner close up from the cockpit when looking left, but I can forgive them this at the moment, as the rest of the aircraft is delightful.    Also, I knew all this when I bought it and I accepted it, so it wasn't to my chagrin! 😀

I think the MSFS default prop action bothers me worse than the polygons actually, with its strobe/stutter effect.  Hopefully Asobo can improve this in the future.  I think some developers seem to use their own prop animation that isn't so bad, but I notice even the DC-6 uses the Asobo SDK effect.

Do you recommend the Bird Dog then?   I was put off when it released as the feedback wasn't very positive. I didn't really follow any progress after that.

I try not to recommend anything for fear of being shot down by the nit-pick anti aircraft artillery, but I was pointing more towards the sign that they haven't abandoned these products like some said they did with a historic Airbus project.  The general consensus is that they fixed the Bird Dog up very well after substantial updates, but one of the attractions was the floatplane version, and of course, floats are everywhere now!

Hehe, I understand fully 🙂    I'll take a punt on it.    I'm more than happy with the Islander now.    If the BD is around that quality It'll suit me fine.   (I'm not a nit picker!)Thanks Bob

A nice update. The cockpit sounds make a real difference. The low poly textures kind of match the sim now.
