Explains why you eyes bleed, you have all on the lowest settings, mine would too.

Nope, all settings maxed (excluding SSAO, which doesn't hit fps, but is very borken) on.

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor @4.5Ghz

GeForce RTX 3070

Linux. (feel sorry for those who ignored how amazing the new kit would be and waited for them to sell out before trying to buy them though)

just not bogged down with a load of post processing (aka unnecessary eye candy) or framerate killing plugins.

The "eyes bleed" refers to default textures on flat terrain only.

9 pages of debating....from 1 little itty bitty teaser video that runs for just over a minute.

I love it.

I'm actually staggered by how little impact this video has/had in the forums I visit regularly. Almost nothing on Reddit and even on the org forums. You have to actually find those threads instead of the Discover page being full of comments. Before MSFS, this would have caused threads with 100s of replies by now IMHO.

still front page of fselite

You might want to check numbers on Reddit. Agreed on the org forums.

Not sure what being on the frontpage of a news site means with regard to my comment?

There are three or four threads about it on the .org, some of them merged now - but a lot of users frequenting the .org are seasoned X-Plane simmers. They view the video and like what they see - they smile, but don´t feel the need to immediately express their feelings on social media. Different generation, I guess.

let me rephrase

lots of people are on reddit, but no one uses it. Its basically meme wars with no substance, and any attempt at heated discourse is shut down faster than an xbox post on a playstation forum.

There was lots of good stuff on ceddit tho.

True that.

But when the next best alternative is some $100,000 for Unigine, and that doesn't even come with any aircraft or scenery as default, hardly that much of an issue.

Plus you don't have to go searching, no one is forcing you to do more than use it to help learn how to fly a C172 at your local airfield, and for that you never go anywhere near any clouds.

Addons are great, but I think that the majority want solid core features from the start. Plus, the broader the "initial" appeal, the broader the base, the better the chances of funding for further development.

TBH I'm amazed and thankful its gotten to where it has in such a short time, Microsoft flight simulator has been going for pretty much just as long and still doesn't even have any kind of realistic helicopters or (most important for flight sim in 2021) usable VR yet..... and those things require much harder to find specialists than people who know how to calculate a volume.

Why do you always bring MSFS into the discussion? I think any criticism you level at them is overshadowed by the 2M+ pilots. Asobo has a strategy, and it seems to be working with both users and 3P Devs (only a year after release). So let's not go down that road....for the 4th time...let's just stick with where LR is after 26 years.

LR has always gone their own way....Austin stated how he does not care what user expects to see, and how he does not look at the competition.

If you look at the teaser video, LR starts off showing a "user" requested feature and then they show the new lighting model as "if" Austin is now listening to what users want.

Why do you think he has changed his tune??? Now looking to engage more...and most certainly "now" looking at what the competition is doing.

He is playing catch up when he could have been much further ahead, particularly with graphics / user engagement. I think the vid is hilarious because it is about 3 or 4 years too late as far as impressing me. I mean when / if he "finally" presents better clouds, will it really be that impressive when even combat sims are already doing the same or better?

I am sure you do....with only 52k views...you might want to tell your account to "brace" for that onslaught of potential new sales.

What do you think isn't "solid" - that is better elsewhere?

Then any criticism of xplane is overshadowed by these 5M+ pilots, no?
