MSFS2020 Reinstall Problems

Featured Replies

I am running Windows 10 (latest update) and used FS2020 successfully since Nov 2020. A few CTD's but without too many hic-ups. I have been away from the computer for a month and on my return fs2020 went into an immediate CTD without even starting up. I did not even get a chance for the last major update to get installed. A black window for 10 seconds and gone. After spending hours trying to resolve that, I finally uninstalled MSFS2020 wanting to reinstall it. I went back to the MS store and  figured out how to load the installer at 1.6 GB and pressed Launch to make things happen. But nothing did except the same recurring black screen as if it were going to start but instantly disappearing.  I tried finding answers in the flightsim  forums but without much luck.

I hope that someone on Avsim may have found a  solution to this problem . It should be relatively simple - download and install - but admittedly time consuming. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Rolf

did you have stuff in the community folder maybe, that made it act weird?

and yeah, this reinstall should be way easier.

i think if you been away for some time, clean the communityfolder.

the aerosoft crj has also been the cause of issues, you need updates.

not sure why the update wont happen....

Wim, thanks for that. Knowing that i had a major update to deal with I emptied the community folder. I also copied my store folders to my G Drive for transfer to be part of the installation process of MSFS 2020 on my C Drive. I then uninstalled MSFS. After that i could not get past the 1.6 GB for the downloading process to reinstall MSFS. I appreciate your help.

SUCCESS! I contacted the Zendesk for support and after an hour I received a contact and asked me to provide information to analyze my system. after providing them with data they came back with in an hour having identified the issue as a .dll file. the suggestion to fix my issue to go to Taskmanager/Startups and disable all non-MS apps, reboot and go back to Launch flightsim. I did that and it worked. The download started and included all updates.
My Hat is off to the support team for providing this excellent support and all within a couple of hours. Amazing. There are apparently 4 apps I had that msfs did not like and might have contributed to CTD's.
I hope your issue is resolved as easily as mine.
Regards,
Rolf

PS > SpiritFlyer. Great to hear from you. Drop by sometime to discuss MSFS. I year ago I was a sceptic, this year I am sold on this Sim big time..

I do not doubt it a minute but it sounds mighty strange ! What are these four apps ? Security software like anti-virus, firewall etc. ?

Glad you got it fixed 🙂

Which apps were those btw? This kind of information will help someone else in the same situation for sure!

glad you got it solved rather quickly, but i am curious too about those apps?

btw i removed most of the ms apps, if possible.

This is what happened;

MSFS2020 is crashing due to:
Faulting module name: ucrtbase.dll

  •  In Task Manager/Startup - Disable all non-Microsoft applications and services and reboot.
  • The problematic apps that he said were known to cause CTD's,
  • Nahimic service
  • Asus Sonic Studio 2
  • Windows Audio Service
  • Seagate Toolkit

This worked at first try and I was able to  download MSFS2020 fully. I can isolate the culprit by the following procedure;

To find out which application causes the sim to crash on start-up:

Enable one non-Microsoft application

Reboot the computer

Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator

Enable a second non-Microsoft application

Reboot the computer

Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator. Repeat this process until you find the application that is causing the crash. You can then disable this application or stop the process in the task manager before launching Microsoft Flight Simulator.

I hope this helps.

A big Thank You to the FlightSim Support Team  for the great service.

I disabled all since I had limited time and will be gone for most of theSummer. I don’t care too much about start ups and will manually ccheck what’s needed. On my next trip back,  i might just start taking a few more steps. The flights I took earlier on today went great.
