Now my MSFS won't start!

Featured Replies

Was fine yesterday.  I am unable to get beyond the screen seen below.  At that point it just quits to desktop!  I have repeatedly logged out and back in at xbox and attempted to login at flightsimulator.com.  No joy!  I have also followed the Youtube tutorial regarding Gaming Services posted here in another topic two or three days ago. I also restored my system to a three-day old Windows restore point.

The only somewhat strange issue I see is logging in at the flightsimulator.com site.  When I attempt to log in at that site's start page I get a white screen for a couple of seconds and then that start page reloads.  It does not provide a login dialog.  It does not show me logged in (Avatar in top right corner).  But if I click on the Forums tab I find I am logged in there.  So I log out of the forums.  Go back to xbox and log out.  Then I log back in at Xbox, return to flightsimulator.com and experience the same oddity.  It just will not provide a way to log in on the main page.  I have tried removing cookies and site settings, and have tried three browsers.

Any tips or ideas?

did you go to the ms store to see if all is well there?

Yes.  Tried a Windows 10 Settings, App, Repair.  Did not work.  Now in the midst of doing a reset, which appears akin to a reinstall.  Time will tell.  I am still only logging approx 25% - 30% of my hours in MSFS so its not a total bummer, but I did have a nice uneventful 3.0 hour flight yesterday.

Currently watching the sand drizzling in the hourglass....

Frank, as a fellow meteorologist  (not in the position anymore though) I'll be glad to help unless someone beats me to it. I have the fix back home on the desktop and later this afternoon when I get home  I'll share with you and the community. You need to un-install a windows app and re-install....that's it. No major surgery.

Will post later to this thread.

If you are referring to Gaming Services as per this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpZ3BZokSOA&ab_channel=ComeAndFixIT  I already ran through that.  First with the Registry edit.  Then I had to use the 3rd method to get it to reinstall.  That did not cure the issue.  I am now about halfway through the long reset routine as mentioned in my most recent post.  If it is something different then my all means let me know.

i really wonder why the h that happens with some and not with others...  the mysteries of windows gaming.

It happened to me months ago, after a systems restore which broke the links that MSFS relies upon.

At the time, I blamed it on the fact that I had used the Windows App Move function to relocate MSFS.

Now, I do not touch MSFS and let it do its thing.. for fear of a repeat, which like Frank, resulted in a full reinstall.

systems restore

I will not do a full systems restore.  My FSX SE and all the addons there are still flawless.  Just cannot throw away 75% of my hours to favor 25% that are still so questionable.  If the MSFS reset does not work, next step may be a full uninstall and reinstall.  If not successful  I may be looking off to my next system as that is when I would consider a fresh OS .....
This one is not even a year old.....

2.5 hours into the reset I am on 62 of 86 GB, at a transfer rate of about 50% of my mbps.  Yawn!

If my experience is a guide, the Reset is basically a re-install, so hopefully that will do it.

I am not suggesting that you should.. In my case the systems restore led to my MSFS problems.

What torches me is that I likely lose all my configurations.  Asobo badly needs to provide a method to store and retrieve those!  Mostly concerned about the time I spent customizing settings and calibrating my flight controls!

BTW. During my attempts to start MSFS earlier today, my first step was to totally empty my Community folder.  That via the Addons Linker of course.  So that folder's contents was not an issue.

OK. At the choose Reset phase there was a stern warning that all user settings would be lost....  Then go figure!

Yes I did a *complete* reinstall once, including reinstalling Windows 10 (my computer would not even boot up  the Windows desktop, so I had to do all that.

Anyway, none of my old MSFS were lost, it was all as before, even the controller profiles, and pilots log.
