Full downloads again I assume? They really need something like PMDG's OC when they are pushing small compatibility updates.

Hey Guys, I'm new to the FSLabs bus. When updating, is it a complete uninstall and run the new installer or does the new installer do the updating? Searched on the forum but didn't find the answer. Thanks.

Just download and run the new installer. It will take care of everything and remove the prior version for you.

When I think about all of the install/reinstall that happens with P3D for each point change and then all of the software that needs updating (FSL for example)...

I've just done it and it took around 1 hour, most of which installers were doing their job and I was drinking coffee and browsing the Web anyway. 😉

just because we have learned to accept it, doesn't mean its an enjoyable process.  If FSLabs can design great aircraft, I'm sure they are more than capable of getting us a more advanced method of updating their airplanes. When we had three installers (A319/320/321) it was a PIA.  Now you throw two more SL in the mix it's a real PIA.

I am sure they are. But not being an FSLabs team member, I can only guess, that the unprecedented complexity of this simulation creates the requirement of full reinstall (as well as Windows restart).
Not saying a sleek GUI would not make it more comfortable, but the fact I need to reinstall FSL airbuses, say, a few times per year, does not necessarily make it a big inconvenience to me.

I have to agree...and add to that the fact that a reboot is required after installing each of the five acft variants.  So when you have to do five uninstalls, five reinstallations, and five reboots for every point release and hotfix, it does land things squarely in the realm of tedious.

You don't have to do any uninstalls, as they are instantly done when reinstalling.
You don't have to do each reboot if you don't want and you can just do the final one.

I install all 5 and then reboot hopefully that should be good enough 😉

Well, hopefully the extensions don't require anything from the registry placed there by the base installer.  I could have sworn I tried to run an extension installer without first rebooting and it refused because the reboot was pending...maybe things have changed or i'm confusing it with something else.  In any event, since i'm not intimately conversant with what the installer is doing (or why it needs a reboot at all), I usually do the reboot if the installer is telling me I need to.

Bob, you should be fine with rebooting just once after installing/updating all variants that you have. I have been through this process quite a few times in the last few months (due to new releases and updates) and so far haven't experienced any issue with the aircraft that way. It's just a bit of an inconvenience always having to enter the order number/serial, download, run all the installers, etc., but eventually, everything works as it should.
