July 12, 20214 yr Hi, please if someone with more experience than me to help me use the right screen resolution in MSFS 2020 for best performance and experience. My tv monitor is a 4K and in both windows 10 pro and Nvidia control panel for my GTX 1080 ti is at 3840x2160 (native) as recommended. In MSFS 2020 General settings at 3840x2160 I have FPS reduction less tha 30. The choices I have to select are 1. 2048x2160 2. 2560x1440 3. 2560x1600 4. 3840x2160 Please help me choose the one you think is the better. Thank you, Georgios
July 12, 20214 yr The guys on here that run 4k with a 1080Ti set native screen to 4k as you always should. In the sim use render Scale and set 70%-80% (70-80) Edited July 12, 20214 yr by Nyxx David Murden. July 12, 20214 yr As Nyxx says, I have high / ultra settings on a 4k monitor (set to native 3840x2160) and I can definitely hold 30 fps in almost all situations with render scaling set to 70%. (1080Ti). Vsync set to 30 in sim is smoothest for me. I used to use the excellent RTSS set to 30 fps locked, but now vsync in sim is better (smoother) since Asobo tweaked the internal frame pacing a few updates ago. I can run at 80% scaling in some light load situations, such as flying around the Canary Islands etc. Edited July 12, 20214 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). July 12, 20214 yr Commercial Member Always set the output resolution to be the same to the native resolution of your monitor. Then, if you find your graphic card can't keep up with it, lower the Render Scaling settings to make it easier on the GPU. Usually a setting of 80% or 70% are good starting points. July 12, 20214 yr Author My friends, thank you so much, I’ve got the point , I will follow your advise as I understand all of you gave me in general the aiming point. Thank you

The native resolution for my 4K tv monitor is set at 3840x2160. If I’m using this resolution with a render scaling of 75, I get approximately 45-50 FPS BUT, with 2560x1440 and render scaling of 100 I near 65-75 FPS Whats the disadvantage (if you know) using different scaling than the Windows native?

It is just that you will have an unsharpened display. It is normally better to scale down from native (for sharpness, with TAA on). Of course, if FPS is more important, then aim for that. Everyone is different, but having any more than a solid 60 fps is pointless if it is at the expense of poor visuals. So now you have experimented and you are in the right area, it is up to you to set the balance with your own PC. Good luck! All is good as long as you are happy with your settings. I can't get those FPS at those resolutions with my 1080Ti though, unless all the settings are turned to low / medium maybe, but I would rather have a solid 30 FPS with good graphics personally. I have a 1070ti 8GB and agree with your experience. However I have not yet after reading this topic set MSFS to my native res as suggested and dialed back Render Scaling. That is something I must try. If I have been at that configuration before it would have been only coincidence as I randomly tried different combinations. Best for me Frank is definitely native resolution scaled back, then let the built-in TAA work its magic! I have a 4k monitor, which was expensive, so I want to use every pixel. 😀 I tried 2560 and upscaling, and while I can go upscaled by 130%-140%, or 4k downscaled to 70% or 80%, and hold a solid and smooth 30 FPS both ways, although they are roughly equivalent in 'virtual' pixel count, the native and downscaled setting definitely looks the best to me. July 12, 20214 yr As for experience.... ........it depends on your eyesight. I really cannot see the benefit of the higher resolutions, I can't see the difference. My eyesight is not what it used to be. It's not bad but it ain't a young mans eyesight anymore. MSFS 2020 i7-4790k @ 4.4ghz for the moment. Asus z87-k mobo.
